HADLEY, Mass. - The 2025 NESCAC Women's Tennis awards were announced on Wednesday. Sahana Raman of Middlebury was named the NESCAC Player of the Year honor while fellow Panther Elsie Van Wieren was selected as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Bowdoin senior Jamilah Karah was the recipient of the Senior Sportswoman of the Year and Polar Bear head coach Ben Lamanna was voted as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by his peers.
Raman bookends her career at Middlebury with the Player of the Year honor after winning Rookie of the Year in 2022. A seven-time All-NESCAC performer, Raman is the fourth Panther to be selected as the NESCAC Player of the Year. The senior owns a 23-4 record in singles competition, including a 12-3 mark at the top of the ladder for Middlebury and is 28-3 on the doubles courts with a 15-2 record at No. 1 doubles. Raman led the Panthers to their first NESCAC title in program history last weekend. Middlebury heads into the NCAA Tournament with a 17-2 overall record after posting a 10-0 mark in NESCAC play this season.
Van Wieren is the sixth Panther to earn the Rookie of the Year accolade. The newcomer was named to the All-NESCAC First Team in singles and doubles this season. Van Wieren is 22-5 on the season with a 9-4 record at the No. 2 singles slot and is 26-6 in doubles with a 15-2 record on the No. 2 doubles team.
Karah is the third Bowdoin player to earn the Senior Sportswoman of the Year honor. The honor is given annually to the individual who has displayed a high standard of tennis coupled with the highest levels of sportsmanship. Karah is a five-time All-NESCAC selection and was named to the All-NESCAC Second Team in singles and doubles this season. She owns a 13-3 record while playing at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 on the Bowdoin ladder in singles. In doubles, Karah played primarily on the top doubles team and is 11-8. Bowdoin was an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament.
Bowdoin head coach Ben Lamanna becomes the first Polar Bear coach to be recognized as the NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers. Lamanna led Bowdoin to the No. 3 seed in the NESCAC Championship where the Polar Bears advanced to the semifinals. Bowdoin owns a 15-5 record, the most wins in a single season in Lamanna's tenure, heading into the NCAA Tournament.
