NESCAC Announces Men's Basketball Awards

HADLEY, Mass. – The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) announced its men's basketball awards for the 2024-25 season on Thursday as voted by the league’s coaches.

Hamilton senior guard Hank Morgan was voted as the NESCAC Player of the Year. Morgan, who also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team for the second straight year, is the second Hamilton player to garner the Player of the Year honor, joining Kena Gilmour (2019). Morgan leads the NESCAC in scoring (22.0 ppg), ranks second in field goal percentage (54.5%), and is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game. The Continentals advanced to the NESCAC Semifinals and were an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. Hamilton faces Western New England in a first-round matchup on Friday, March 7 at Montclair State.

Trinity junior Jarrel Okorougo is the second consecutive Bantam to be named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year and is the fifth player in team history to garner the accolade. Okorougo ranks fourth in the NESCAC in rebounding (6.8 rpg) and fifth in field goal percentage (50.6%). The guard/forward ranks second on the team in scoring at 11.6 points per game and has collected 23 steals and 24 blocks this season. Okorougo, an All-NESCAC First Team selection, helped Trinity win its second straight NESCAC title and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Bantams will host first and second round games at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity plays Neumann in a first-round contest on Friday, March 7.

Bowdoin newcomer Ray Cuevas is the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The guard is the second Polar Bear to earn the honor in team history, joining Jack Simonds (2016). Cuevas started all 24 games in his first year at Bowdoin and ranks seventh among the NESCAC scoring leaders with a team-high 15.5 points per game. The guard also ranks among the conference leaders in free throw percentage (3rd/84.2%) and 3-point field goal percentage (6th/38.3%).

The Wesleyan University staff was voted the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by its peers. Led by head coach Joe Reilly, who is in his 17th season at the helm of the Cardinals with 260 career wins, Wesleyan posted a 26-game unbeaten streak. Reilly is the first head coach in the NESCAC to earn the Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year honor at two different institutions. The 2025 season marks the second time the Wesleyan staff has been recognized (2022), and Reilly was the NESCAC Coach of the Year in 2006 as the leader of the Bates squad. The Cardinals’ 27 wins are the most in program history as they head into the NCAA Tournament as an at-large selection. Wesleyan will host first and second round games and meets Delaware Valley in the first round on Friday, March 7.
