NESCAC Player of the Week
Sydney Fleming – Williams – Sr. – C – Burlingame, Calif.
Fleming went it .429 with 12 hits, 11 RBIs, eight runs and five home runs, in a 5-3 week for the Ephs in California. In a 7-3 win at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, Fleming tied the program's career home-run record (37) by blasting two homers, to go along with five RBIs and three runs. In a doubleheader against Whittier, the senior went a combined 5-for-8 batting, with five RBIs, three home runs, and three runs scored. Fleming also maintained a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, with 34 putouts and two assists on 36 total chances at catcher.
NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Sadie Leonard – Williams – Jr. – P – Tiburon, Calif.
Leonard went 4-0 in the circle last week, throwing four complete games while totaling 43 strikeouts. Leonard threw a one-hitter in a 3-0 win at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday. The junior threw a two-hitter in a 7-1 triumph at Whittier on Friday and pitched all eight innings in a 3-2 win over Chapman, scattering six hits and allowing one earned run while registering 13 strikeouts. Leonard maintained a 0.72 ERA on the week.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Emma Nordstrom (Pelham, N.H.) had an OPS of 1.456 in a 1-3 week for the Mammoths, batting .462 with an on-base percentage of .533 and a slugging percentage of .923. The sophomore knocked out six hits, including four doubles and a home run. Nordstrom scored seven runs and drove in four on the week. In the Mammoths’ 6-3 win over Middlebury, Nordstrom was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Bates – Junior
Ella Maher (Newton, Mass.) hit .458 at the plate with four multi-hit games last week, smacking two doubles, scoring five runs, and driving in five for the Bobcats. Bates went 4-2 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC to improve its record to 11-5, marking the program’s best start through 16 games since 2000 … Delaney Rankin (Harrison, Maine) went 3-0 in the circle last week for the Bobcats, allowing five runs in 22 innings pitched. She struck out 18 batters while scattering 19 hits. Rankin is a perfect 8-0 to start the season with eight complete games. The junior owns a 1.02 ERA, fourth-lowest in the NESCAC, and leads the conference in wins. Her 69 strikeouts are the second-most in the NESCAC.
Colby –
Carissa Cassidy (Columbus, Ind.) knocked out 11 hits, tallying hits in five of the six games and batted. 550 at the plate last week for Colby. The junior’s 4-for-4 performance against Oberlin led the Mules to an 11-2 win as the centerfielder drove in two runs and scored runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th innings …
Sophia Meade (Guilford, Conn.) threw two scoreless innings in relief against Wisconsin-Platteville to earn her third save of the season. The first-year made three appearances last week in Clermont, Florida, tallying six strikeouts over 10.2 innings while surrendering only three runs.
Hamilton –
Lydia Mirabito (Fulton, N.Y.) went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in and two runs scored in a 12-1 win against Trinity. Mirabito's grand slam – the first home run of the junior's career – clinched the Continentals' victory in the bottom of the fifth inning due to the mercy rule. The four RBI in one game were a career-high for Mirabito …
Emma Tansky (Collegeville, Pa.) pitched in both games of a doubleheader split against Trinity. In a 12-1 win in five innings in Game 1, Tansky allowed one run on two hits and four walks and struck out six in a complete-game effort. The senior gave up four hits and fanned three in 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in an 8-6 setback in Game 2.
Middlebury –
Jennifer Westphal (Westport, Conn.) led Middlebury with a .818 slugging percentage, tallying three runs on five hits in a 3-1 week. The junior recorded a double and a home run, while pacing the team with nine total bases and going .455 at the plate. The catcher also tied for the most putouts of the week with 21 with no errors …
Emily Ye (Alameda, Calif.) registered a pair of saves over three appearances last week, including a critical win against Amherst. The Panther recorded a 1.81 ERA, striking out seven batters over 7.2 innings of work.
Trinity –
Taylor Mikolajczak (Johns Creek, GA) posted a .750 batting average (9-for-12) with five RBI and three runs scored across a pair of NESCAC doubleheaders against Hamilton and Bates. Against the Continentals, Mikolajczak went 1-for-1 with a pair of walks in the opener. The senior delivered the game-tying RBI single in the fourth and tacked on an insurance run with an RBI single in the eighth. Zofia Sargent (Shrewsbury, Mass.) held the Bobcats to three runs on eight hits with a strikeout in the opener and limited Bates to one hit in 2.1 innings of relief work in Game 2.
Tufts –
Heaven Oliva (Ventura, Calif.) hit .538 with seven RBI and three runs scored as Tufts opened NESCAC play with doubleheader sweeps of Bowdoin on Friday and Amherst on Sunday. She was 3-for-6 with four RBI and two runs in the two games versus Bowdoin, including a home run in the second game when all three of her RBI helped Tufts build a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning. Against Amherst, she was 4-for-7 with two doubles, three RBI, and a run. The sophomore doubled home the first run in the first inning of Game 1(3-0 win), then had an RBI double and scored in the fifth inning of Game 2 to help Tufts overcome a 6-5 deficit to win 7-6 …
Sophia DiCocco (Bozrah, Conn.) was 2-0 with a save in four games against Bowdoin and Amherst. In Game 1 against Bowdoin DiCocco went the distance for the win, allowing six hits and three runs in seven innings. In the first game against Amherst, the graduate student threw a three-hit shutout. In the second game, DiCocco entered in the sixth after Tufts had taken a 7-6 lead and recorded six straight outs to earn a save. She had a 1.31 ERA and allowed just nine hits in 16 innings overall.
Wesleyan –
Isabella Secaira-Cotto (Valley Stream, N.Y.) went 3-for-8 in the two games combined on Saturday against Bates. The senior’s biggest hit of the day came in Game 2 where she ripped a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning that scored the game-winning run from second base for a 1-0 walk-off win. Secaira-Cotto also went 2-for-4 with a triple in Game 1 of the doubleheader against the Bobcats …
Jacelyn Lees (Watauga, Texas) continued to shine for the Cardinals as the first-year tossed another complete game shutout, this time a three-hitter with only one walk and seven strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Bates. Lees has gone 20 straight innings without allowing a run, sporting a 0.17 ERA, and has allowed only one earned run in 42.1 innings pitched this season.
