NESCAC Player of the Week
Sofia Guttmann – Amherst – Jr. – A – Weston, Fla.
Guttmann scored nine goals and added an assist in a 3-0 week for the Mammoths. The junior entered the week with just four goals on the season, but exploded for nine last week, registering a hat trick in each win, including a 13-9 conference victory over Bowdoin. Guttmann added one draw control and had two extra player goals.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Bates –
Lucy Taylor (Falmouth, Maine) matched her career-high with five points (2G, 3A) in a 21-9 win over Plymouth State on Thursday. The sophomore followed up with a goal and two assists against No. 8 ranked Wesleyan on Saturday.
Colby –
Charlotte Michener (Fairfield, Conn.) tallied her first career hat trick in an 11-9 win over Hamilton to help the Mules move to 6-0 on the season. The newcomer had a goal and an assist in the opening quarter, her second goal broke a 7-7 tie in the third, and Michener's third goal extended Colby's lead to four goals heading into the fourth.
Conn. College – Senior midfielder
Aine Downey (Brookline, Mass.) had a stellar week, leading Conn. College to a 2-1 record. On Monday, Downey set career-highs in points (9) and goals (8) and added an assist in a win over Eastern Connecticut. On Wednesday, Downey posted a four-point performance on three goals and one assist as the Camels defeated the University of New England. Downey finished the week with a solid performance against Middlebury on Saturday. With Conn. College trailing 3-1 midway through the second quarter, Downey picked off a pass in the defensive end before going coast-to-coast to help set up a tally from junior Campbell Johnston (Duxbury, Mass.), which trimmed the deficit to 3-2. For the week, Downey recorded 13 points on 11 goals and two assists, with five ground balls, two caused turnovers, and four draw controls.
Hamilton –
Clara Paolucci (Redondo Beach, Calif.) posted a 7.00 goals against average and .481 save percentage in two starts for the Continentals. Paolucci stopped three shots in a 14-3 win against SUNY Brockport. The first-year made a season-high 10 saves and added two ground balls and a caused turnover in an 11-9 setback at Colby.
Middlebury –
Gina Driscoll (Orange, Conn.) picked up three victories in goal over spring break for the Panthers. Driscoll opened the week with eight saves and a career-high three caused turnovers in a 15-6 victory at No. 4 Gettysburg before stopping four shots in 45 minutes of action in an 18-7 triumph at No. 12 TCNJ. In the final game of the week, the Panther tallied a career-high 13 saves and scooped up six ground balls to push the squad to a 12-3 win against Connecticut College.
Trinity –
Brooke Kurtz (Alexandria, Va.) paced the Bantams offense across a 2-1 week, featuring non-conference victories over Claremont-Mudd Scripps (12-10) and Babson (13-7). Kurtz netted a goal with a team-high three assists in the win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and added another goal with two assists in the win over the Beavers. The senior potted a pair of goals in an 11-5 loss to Williams and added four ground balls, a caused turnover, and a draw control during the week.
Tufts – In a pair of wins over ranked opponents in Virginia,
Pascale de Buren (Novato, Calif.) stopped 18 shots in wins over No. 10 Washington & Lee, 17-6, and Christopher Newport, 15-5. On Friday against Washington & Lee, de Buren tied a season-high for saves with 10, allowing just six goals in the victory over the Generals. The senior tallied eight stops in the win over Christopher Newport and added five ground balls. De Buren ranks second in the NESCAC in save percentage and saves per game (7.43).
Wesleyan – In a week where Wesleyan allowed six goals or less in all three wins,
Molly Simon (Essex Falls, N.J.) led the Cardinal defenders with six caused turnovers and six ground balls as the Cardinals defeated Endicott, Stevenson, and Bates. The junior played her best game of the season in the 19-6 win over the Bobcats, recording three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Williams – Senior
Claudia Russell (Danville, Calif.) scored a hat trick, to go along with two assists, for a total of five points, in an 11-5 win at No. 15 Trinity on Friday.
