Trinity & Wesleyan Advance to NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Elite 8 Round

Trinity and Wesleyan earned third-round victories in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament to advance to the Elite 8 round.
 
Trinity (27-3) def. Western New England (23-7), 79-42 | Box Score
  • Trinity advanced to the Elite 8 for the second consecutive season with a convincing 79-42 victory over Western New England University in third-round action at Oosting Gymnasium.
  • The Bantams held Western New England to four field goals in the first half and built a 40-13 advantage at the half.
  • Trinity maintained its defensive pressure in the second stanza, holding the Golden Bears to 35 percent shooting.
  • Will Dorian scored a game-high 15 points on 6-for-8 shooting (3-for-5 3FG). Jarrel Okorougo added 13 points and five rebounds, and Henry Vetter chipped in 11 points with five assists.
  • Trinity faces Catholic, a 95-91 winner over Roanoke, in the Elite 8 game at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.
 
Wesleyan (29-1) def. WPI (26-4), 66-50 | Box Score
  • Wesleyan advanced to the Elite 8 for the first time in team history with a 66-50 victory over WPI at Silloway Gymnasium.
  • The Cardinals led 33-19 at the half after limiting WPI to 31.8 percent shooting in the first stanza.
  • Wesleyan maintained a comfortable double-digit lead in the second half to post its 29th victory of the season, extending the team record for most wins in a season.
  • Nicky Johnson and Ben Lyttle scored 12 points each to pace the Cardinals with Jackson Cormier adding 11 points in 19 minutes. Johnson handed out six assists and collected five rebounds while Lyttle added 10 rebounds to complete his double-double.
  • Wesleyan will play Emory, an 80-78 winner over Mary Washington, in the national quarterfinal on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
