HADLEY, Mass. - The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) announced its men’s squash awards for the 2024-25 season on Wednesday, as voted by the league’s coaches.
Trinity junior Joachim Chuah Han Wen was named the NESCAC Player of the Year. The No. 1 player for the Bantams, Chuah Han Wen reached the semifinals of the CSA Individual Tournament, helped Trinity win its 18th NESCAC Championships, won 18 matches this season, and has 46 career wins. Chuah Han Wen’s selection marks the 10th time a Bantam has been named NESCAC Player of the Year.
Bates newcomer Dennis Welte was voted as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Playing at the No. 2 position for the Bobcats, Welte won seven matches and helped Bates qualify for the NESCAC Tournament for the 18th consecutive year. The Bobcats also reached the finals of the Summers Cup, falling 5-4 to Chatham in the championship match. Welte becomes the third Bobcat to collect NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors (Ahmed Hatata, 2014 & Ahmed Abdel Khalek, 2013).
The Trinity coaching staff was selected as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers for the second year in a row. Led by head coach Moustafa Hamada and assistants Mohamed Sharaf and Paul Assaiante, the Bantams won their 18th consecutive NESCAC title, posted a 13-4 record, and the advanced to the semifinals of the Potter Cup. The Trinity coaches have been selected as the NESCAC Coach/Coaching Staff of the Year six times since 2008.
