NESCAC Player of the Week
Scott Gyimesi – Tufts – Jr. – F – Fair Haven, N.J.
Gyimesi averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins over Amherst and Hamilton. Against the Mammoths, the junior was 8-of-11 for 17 points and nine rebounds, adding three assists and two steals. Against Hamilton, Gyimesi totaled 26 points and 10 rebounds, going 11-of-16 while from the field and adding two assists and a steal. For the week, the forward shot 70.4 percent from the field, including 50 percent from 3-point land.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Ryker Vance (Naples, Fla.) shot 70 percent from the floor and a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line in two losses for the Mammoths last week. The senior averaged 11.5 points per game and contributed six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.
Bates –
Babacar Pouye (Carpinteria, Calif.) recorded seven blocks and four steals over two games against nationally ranked NESCAC opponents. The sophomore dealt with foul trouble against Trinity but emerged as a force on offense against undefeated and No. 1-ranked Wesleyan. The forward tallied 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked four shots, and recorded three steals against the Cardinals. Pouye's performance against Wesleyan also included a rim-rattling dunk in the first half and a fadeaway jumper with one second left in regulation to force overtime.
Bowdoin – Newcomer
Ray Cuevas (Ipswich, Mass.) scored a game-high 18 points as Bowdoin defeated Middlebury on Friday night. It was Bowdoin’s first win at Middlebury since 2005.
Colby – Senior
Jack Lawson (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied a career-high 30 points in Friday night's setback at Williams, shooting 11-for-16 from the floor and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line. Over the weekend, the senior averaged 22.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and enters the week three points shy of 1000 points for his career.
Conn. College –
Cam Schainfeld (Newton, Mass.) averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game last week as the Camels went 1-1 in league action. The senior dropped in a game-high 19 points and shot 3-for-5 from deep in a win over Amherst and added four rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block. Schainfeld netted a team-high 16 points with four rebounds in a loss against Hamilton.
Hamilton –
Hank Morgan (Caldwell, N.J.) averaged 29.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 road weekend for the Continentals. Morgan shot 60 percent from the field including 6-of-13 from beyond the arc. The senior started the weekend with 27 points, four rebounds, and four assists in a 69-57 win at Connecticut College. Morgan posted 31 points, seven boards, four assists, and two steals in an 84-69 setback at Tufts.
Middlebury –
Sam Stevens (Mansfield, Mass.) led all players with a career-high 29 points on Saturday, helping Middlebury claim an 87-74 victory over Colby. The senior knocked down a career-best four shots from beyond the arc and moved into 13th place among the program’s all-time leading scorers (1,179 points).
Trinity – Junior forward
Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) logged his second double-double of the season in the Bantams' 71-44 victory at Bates. Okorougo netted 14 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field, with a game-high 10 rebounds, a block, and an assist in the win.
Wesleyan – Senior
Shane Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) scored a game-high 22 points, including two key baskets in overtime, as Wesleyan defeated Bates 73-67 on the road on Saturday to keep its undefeated record intact. Regan went 7-for-16 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free throw line while adding five rebounds and two blocks in 36 minutes.
Williams –
Aidan Yates (Charlottesville, Va.) went 6-for-8 from 3-point range in two games and averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds as the Ephs went a 2-0 in NESCAC play last weekend. Yates scored a career-high 19 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from long range, to go along with seven rebounds, in a 66-63 triumph over Bowdoin on Saturday. The newcomer finished with 15 points, shooting 3-of-4 from 3-point range, in a 90-83 win over visiting Colby on Friday.
