Tufts' Biccard Claims NFHCA National Player of the Year Honor

Following a stand-out senior season for the Tufts University field hockey team, Hannah Biccard has been selected as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Player of the Year.

Biccard is the Jumbos' first National Player of the Year and the third consecutive player from the NESCAC to garner the honor. Overall, 10 student-athletes from the conference have earned the NFHCA Player of the Year accolade since 2009. She earns the honor after scoring 17 goals with six assists for 40 points in 2025, helping lead head coach Tina Mattera's squad to the NCAA DIII National Championship.

Her biggest goal of the year was the overtime game-winner she scored to lift the Jumbos to a 2-1 victory against Johns Hopkins University in the national championship game on November 22 at Trinity College. Positioned in front of the goal, Biccard reached up to deflect in a shot from classmate Camille Clarke barely one minute into the overtime period to give Tufts its second NCAA title.

At the start of the season, the Jumbos had questions offensively following the graduation of All-Americans Andrea DelGiudice and Kylie Rosenquest. That duo combined for 24 goals and 16 assists (64 points) last season when Tufts advanced to the NCAA Championship Game, but lost.

Biccard and her teammates soon put to rest any doubts about the Jumbo offense for 2025. She tied the school record for goals in a game with five in the team's 8-0 win at Colby College on September 13. It was Tufts' biggest offensive output since 2019.

From there, Biccard would go on to lead Tufts to the most goals in NESCAC this year with 73 in 22 games (3.32 average). She had a six-game goal-scoring streak in the middle of the season, all Tufts victories. After scoring twice at the University of New England on October 21, she assisted two goals as Tufts began its post-season with a 3-2 win over Amherst College in the NESCAC Quarterfinals.

After a disappointing loss to Wesleyan University in the NESCAC Semifinals, Tufts made its NCAA run with Biccard at the forefront. In the first round, she tallied two goals and an assist in the Jumbos' 11-0 win against Dean University that tied the record for goals in an NCAA game. At Bates in the "Elite 8" she scored a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win that sent the Jumbos to their seventh "Final Four".

There she assisted on Tufts' lone goal in a 1-0 victory against #1 in the nation and previously undefeated Christopher Newport University.

Making Tufts' sixth appearance in the NCAA Final, the team won its first national championship since 2012. With her game-winning goal in the NCAA Championship Game, Biccard was selected as the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. The native of Cape Town, South Africa scored four goals with five assists (13 points) in seven post-season games overall, including a 4-3-11 scoring line in five NCAA games.

The 17 goals by Biccard this season were the most by a Tufts player since 2010, and her 40 points were the highest total for the Jumbos since the 2021 season. She topped the NESCAC scoring charts in both categories.

Named as the NFHCA Region II Player of the Year earlier this month, Biccard was the first Jumbo to achieve that accolade since 2009. She was also an NFHCA All-American first team, NFHCA All-Region first team and NESCAC All-Conference first team selection. In addition, Biccard earned NESCAC All-Academic Team honors as well for carrying a grade point average over 3.50 as an economics and international relations double major.
