NESCAC Player of the Week
Ray Cuevas – Bowdoin – So. – G – Ipswich, Mass.
Cuevas averaged 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in a pair of non-conference wins last week against Springfield and MIT. Cuevas scored 29 points against Springfield, going 6-for-7 from three-point range, with eight boards and four assists. After being held to two first-half points at MIT, Cuevas scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the second stanza as Bowdoin rallied for the road win. For the week, Cuevas connected on 61 percent of his shots from the field (19-31), 75 percent from long distance (9-12), and has made his last 37 free throws dating back to November 16.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – Rookie
K.J. Neville (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 11 points in a win over Emmanuel and posted a double-double in a 95-53 win over Mont St. Mary's, netting 14 points and securing 10 rebounds as the Mammoths went 2-0 last week.
Bates –
Babacar Pouye (Carpinteria, Calif.) averaged 13.0 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the floor last week. Pouye recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points (6-11 FG) and a game-high 12 rebounds in an 80-72 win over the University of Southern Maine. The junior followed up with a team-high 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and a game-high nine rebounds in a 94-64 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Pouye is averaging 15.3 points and a conference-best 10.0 rebounds per game and is the only player in the NESCAC to average a double-double. The forward is shooting 62.1 percent from the field, and Bates is 6-0 for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.
Colby –
Sam Hinman (Needham, Mass.) led Colby to a 2-0 week, and the Mules are off to a 6-0 record to start the season. The junior scored double-digits in both games, including five 3-pointers in Sunday's win over UMaine Fort Kent. Hinman averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists for the week.
Conn. College –
James LaFrance (Guilford, Conn.) averaged a team-high 19.0 points per game last week as the Camels split a pair of non-conference road games. The sophomore netted a game-high 21 points in an 81-57 win over Roger Williams in which he shot 4-for-8 from three-point range. The guard also finished with 17 points and shot 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in a setback against Eastern Connecticut State earlier in the week.
Hamilton –
Jalen Reese (Gilford, N.H.) poured in a career-high 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds that included a career-best nine offensive boards in a 78-72 setback at SUNY Delhi. The double-double was the second this season for the junior. Reese added seven points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots in a 74-53 loss at Franklin & Marshall.
Middlebury –
Ian Murray (Kennebunkport, Maine) scored a team-high 31 points in two Middlebury wins last week. The guard opened the week with 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting for a 92-89 road triumph over Plattsburgh State. Murray followed up by scoring 12 and adding six assists to help seal an 81-75 win against RPI. The junior has double-figures in four of five contests.
Trinity –
Drew Lazarre (West Haven, Conn.) earned Sig Makofski Tournament MVP honors after averaging 14.5 points while shooting 52.6 percent (10-19) from the floor, including 50 percent (7-14) from three-point range, with 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.0 steals as the top-ranked Bantams rolled to the Tournament Championship. In a 105-46 victory over Russell Sage in the tourney opener, Lazarre posted 13 points with four rebounds, three assists, a block, and a steal. The senior followed by shooting 54.5 percent (6-11) from the floor and 50 percent (4-8) from beyond the arc en route to a 16-point performance in Trinity's 97-56 victory over host Union College.
Tufts - Junior guard
Jon Medley (Laurelton, N.Y.) had a strong week for the Jumbos as Tufts posted a pair of road wins over MIT and Keene State to extend its win streak to five. Medley averaged 17.5 points per game while adding 3.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game with two blocks and two steals. In a win over MIT, the guard finished with 19 points, four boards, and three assists. Against Keene State, Medley totaled 16 points, eight assists, and made two game-clinching free throws down the stretch to secure the win for the Jumbos.
Williams –
Hudson Hansen (Bellevue, Wash.) averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Ephs. The senior finished with 16 points and seven rebounds at Rhode Island College and scored 11 points and shot 5-for-6 from the field in an 87-41 victory over MCLA.
