Tufts Advances to NCAA Women's Soccer Elite 8 with 2-0 Win over Middlebury

In an all-NESCAC Sweet 16 matchup at South Street Field in Middlebury, Vermont, The Tufts Jumbos defeated the Middlebury Panthers, 2-0.

Tufts advances to the Elite 8 round and will face Mary Washington on Sunday at Middlebury. The Eagles, who knocked Williams out of the NCAA Tournament in PKs in the second round earned a 2-1 win over Penn St. Harrisburg. The Tufts/Mary Washington winner will advance to the NCAA Final Four set for December 4 at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Virginia.

Claire Brady gave Tufts a 1-0 lead with her fifth goal of the season in the 15th minute, finishing off assists from Emily Nicholas and Lena Sugrue. The Jumbos took the one-goal advantage into the break. In the 74th minute, Audrey Cromett’s second goal of the year pushed the Jumbos’ lead to 2-0 and that would be the final margin.

Tufts limited the Panthers to just two shots in the match, while putting 12 on frame and recording 24 in the game. Gigi Day did not have to record a save to pick up the clean sheet victory while Livia Davidson made nine stops for Middlebury.
