NESCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Lynskey – Bates – Jr. – RB - Cranford, N.J.
Lynskey rushed for 221 yards and a career-high four touchdowns as the Bates scored twice in the fourth quarter to rally for a 35-28 win over Tufts on Saturday. The 35 points are the most points Bates has ever scored against Tufts and the most points the Bobcats have scored in a game since tallying 38 against Hamilton in 2013. Lynskey ran the ball a career-high 32 times in the win, averaging 6.9 yards per carry. The junior’s 221 rushing yards are the second-most for Lynskey in one game in his Bates career, trailing only his NESCAC-record 344 rushing yards last season against Bowdoin. Lynskey’s four rushing touchdowns are the most by a Bobcat in one game since Sean Atkins '03 rushed for a NESCAC-record seven touchdowns against Bowdoin in 2002. Lynskey's 24-yard touchdown run up the gut with 58 seconds left in regulation proved to be the game-winner for the Bobcats. The junior captain is currently averaging 100.4 rushing yards per game, tops in the NESCAC.
NESCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Austin Baker – Wesleyan – Jr. – LB – Bend, Ore.
Baker tallied six solo tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass breakups in helping lead the Cardinals in a 24-7 road win over Colby. In the 17-point win, the Wesleyan defense held the Mules to just 110 yards of total offense, which is the fewest yards for a Cardinal opponent since 2018, while Colby was forced into a punt on eight of its nine possessions in the contest
NESCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Ryan Rozich – Bates – Jr. – LB – Cromwell, Conn.
Rozich recovered a misplayed punt at the Tufts 15 with 5:00 left in regulation. The crucial play on special teams set Bates up for a short touchdown drive to pull the Bobcats within one point in a game they went on to defeat Tuts, 35-28. Rozich led all players with 12 total tackles, including four solo stops, and stepped in as the Bobcats’ long snapper when the starter went down with an injury. Rozich hadn't handled long snapping since high school but handled the duties on three punts and one PAT.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Marek Hill (Oak Park, Ill.) accounted for 371 total yards in a 34-7 win at Bowdoin on Saturday. The sophomore completed 62.5 percent of his passes (20 of 32) for 334 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Hill also ran for 37 yards and a touchdown, giving him three scores on the day. Hill’s 5-yard touchdown run in the second quarter tied the game and ignited a string of 34 unanswered points for the Mammoths … Senior
Luke Harmon (Chevy Chase, Md.) made a team-high four tackles Saturday, 1.5 for loss, and intercepted a pass as the Mammoths’ defense held Bowdoin to 134 yards of total offense in a 34-7 victory … Senior
Carter Jung (Menlo Park, Calif.) recorded a 54-yard kick-off return, a career long, to set up the Mammoths' first touchdown that tied the game 7-7 in the second quarter versus the Polar Bears. Jung also accounted for 252 total yards, including eight receptions for 181 yards and two scores. The 181 yards was a career-high for Jung, as is the total yards (single-game). The wideout’s two touchdowns gave him a new single-season high with six. Jung’s two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a 62-yard catch, sealed the game for Amherst.
Bates –
Michael Spencer and his twin brother
Major Spencer III (Mansfield, Texas) combined for 10 tackles in Bates’ 35-28 victory over Tufts. Michael tallied six total tackles, including five solo stops, and broke-up three passes to give him a team-leading four pass break-ups on the season. Major tallied four total tackles, including a solo stop and a half tackle for loss. Major also grabbed the game-clinching interception to secure the victory for Bates in the fourth quarter.
Bowdoin - Junior punter
Caden Perry (Houston, Texas) had eight punts for an average of 42.3 yards with four landing inside the Amherst 20 on Saturday … Sophomore
Angus Leary (West Roxbury, Mass.) had six tackles, 2.5 for loss, a sack, and two QB hurries versus the Mammoths.
Colby -
Antone Moreis (Edgartown, Mass.) ran for a career-high 72 yards on 12 carries against Wesleyan. The junior scored his third touchdown of the season on a 37-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter to close the deficit to 17-7 …
Declan McNamara (Ridgefield, Conn.) made a career-high 11 tackles. The senior was active to the ball early, collecting eight of his stops in the first half. McNamara also broke up three Cardinal passes, and has four pass breakups in the last two games … Junior
Eli Soehren (Otisfield, Maine) flipped the field with his second punt, sending it 65 yards to the Wesleyan 11 and his third punt angled away from the returner to pop out of bounds at the Wesleyan two-yard line. In total, Soehren punted eight times for an average of 45.3 yards. Out of the four returnable punts, the Cardinal returners made a fair catch on two, returned one for zero yards, and fumbled another to extend a Colby drive.
Hamilton – Senior
John Young (Secaucus, N.J.) posted eight tackles including seven solo stops in the Continentals' loss against Trinity. Junior
Mat Bucher (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) was credited with eight tackles and a pass breakup. Bucher is tied for eighth in the NESCAC with 37 tackles.
Middlebury – Running back
Connor McClellan (Columbus, Ohio) tallied 18 rushes for a career-high 163 yards against Williams. McClellan’s 9.1 yards per rush is fourth all-time in a single game. The sophomore also recorded a career-best 70-yard rush that set up a touchdown that tied the game, 17-17, late in the third quarter. McClellan's rushing total against the Ephs is the third-most in a single game in the NESCAC this season …
Michael Votta (Naples, Fla.) tallied six total tackles against the Ephs. The Panther also led the defensive unit with 1.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback hit. Through five contests, Votta leads Middlebury with 7.0 tackles for loss, TFL yardage (30) and sacks (2) … Sophomore
Ty Brinkmann (Brentwood, Tenn.) totaled a season-high 243 punt yards over six attempts versus Williams. The sophomore placed two inside the 20-yard line and had a long of 45 yards.
Trinity – Junior quarterback
Jaxon Carroll (Fitchburg, Mass.) orchestrated the Bantams offense in a 49-0 victory at Hamilton, completing a career-high 22 of 30 passes for 290 yards and a career-high three touchdowns. Carroll completed passes to nine different receivers during the game and opened the contest going 8-for-8 to help the Bantams build an early 7-0 lead.
Tufts -
Hudson Weidman (Boxford, Mass.) earned his first career start for the Jumbos on Saturday against Bates, going 18-for-30 for 204 yards and three touchdowns. The sophomore also added 74 yards rushing on 13 carries. The quarterback connected with sophomore
Keller Rogers (Round Rock, Texas) for a 42-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and hit junior
Matt Rios (West Roxbury, Mass.) for paydirt from 20 yards out, and graduate student
Henry Fleckner (Weston, Mass.) for a 10-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter … Senior defensive lineman
Vince Gilchrist (Norfolk, Mass.) posted a career-high 10 tackles against the Bobcats, and also blocked an extra point in the fourth quarter to keep Tufts ahead 28-27.
Wesleyan – Rookie
Donte Kelly (Meriden, Conn.) established career-highs in catches (12) and receiving yards (140) while scoring one touchdown in a 24-7 win at Colby. Kelly went over the century mark for the third time in five games this year and leads the NESCAC in both receptions (35) and yards (534) while ranking second in touchdowns (6) this season …
Gage Hammond (Montclair, N.J.) pinned Colby inside their own 20-yard line on all three of his punts. The junior also hit a field goal from 34 yards, marking a season-long for the junior kicker, while also making all three of his PATs.
Williams – Sophomore wide receiver
Zach Falls (Duxbury, Mass.) had five receptions for 194 yards and two touchdowns in a 24-17 victory over Middlebury on Saturday. Falls recorded an 84-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter and a 77-yard catch with 4:25 left in the fourth that clinched the game and broke a 17-17 tie ... Junior defensive back
Wyatt Cotton (Edgewater, Md.) recorded 10 tackles, six solo, broke up three passes, and tallied 0.5 tackles for a loss in the win over Middlebury … Junior
Leonardo Maiuolo (San Jose, Calif.) went 3-for-3 on PATs and connected on a 28-yard field goal with 4:04 remaining in the third quarter that gave the Ephs a 17-10 advantage the win over the Panthers.
