NESCAC Co-Players of the Week
Elias Espinosa – Conn. College – Jr. – F – Leonia, N.J.
Espinosa averaged a team-high 23.0 points per game and tallied 10 rebounds, three assists, and five steals in a 2-0 weekend for the Camels. The junior scored 23 points and added six rebounds and four steals in a road win over Middlebury, securing Conn's third-straight win in the series. The forward added a game-high 23 points to go with four boards, three assists, and a steal in Conn's first win over Williams since the 2000 season. Espinosa also shot 50 percent (15-for-30) from the floor and 56 percent (9-for16) from 3-point range for the week.
Shane Regan – Wesleyan – Sr. – G – Larchmont, N.Y.
Regan
had another banner week for the undefeated Cardinals, scoring 25 and 29 points in two road wins at Hamilton and Amherst last weekend. Regan was ultra-efficient on offense, shooting at a 63.3 percent clip while he went 87.5 percent from the free throw line. The senior scored 18 second-half points, leading Wesleyan on a 14-1 run in the second half of a 73-57 win at Hamilton on Friday. He followed with a season-high 29 points (10-16 FG, 8-9 FT) with seven rebounds and two steals, scoring nearly half of Wesleyan's points in a 72-60 road win over Amherst on Saturday.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
C.J. Mitchell (Windsor, Conn.) averaged 11.5 points per game last week, scoring a team-high 15 points in a 66-52 loss to Trinity. The senior added seven rebounds and four assists during the week.
Bates –
Brady Coyne (Falmouth, Maine) shot 40 percent from 3-point range on the week, hitting 2-of-5 from long distance in a 67-58 win over Bowdoin on Friday and following that up with a 6-for-15 performance from beyond the arch Saturday against Colby. The junior tallied 12 points against the Polar Bears and 21 against the Mules. Coyne ranks second on the Bobcats in scoring, averaging 11.7 points per game.
Bowdoin - First-year
Ray Cuevas (Ipswich, Mass.) continued his outstanding rookie campaign, scoring a game-high 27 points on Tuesday night, going 11-for-18 from the field, in an 82-63 win over Colby.
Colby –
Marcos Montiel (Somerville, Mass.) was one of four players in double digits as Colby ran away from Bates Saturday in a NESCAC showdown. The sophomore scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half, including a 6-for-6 effort from the line, as Colby built a 54-38 halftime lead. In a midweek setback at Bowdoin, Montiel had another solid performance with 15 points.
Hamilton –
Hank Morgan (Caldwell, N.J.) averaged 28.5 points per game, shot 56 percent (22-39) from the field and went 10-for-11 at the free-throw line in two games. Morgan poured in a career-high 36 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 72-60 setback against No. 12 Trinity. The senior guard posted 21 points and two steals in a 73-57 loss against No. 5 Wesleyan.
Middlebury – Senior
Sam Stevens (Mansfield, Mass.) moved into 17th place on Middlebury's all-time scoring list with 1,099 in his career.
Trinity – Junior
Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists across a pair of NESCAC victories for the Bantams. Vetter poured in a game-high 25 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field, with six rebounds, two assists, and a block as Trinity downed Amherst, 66-54. In a 72-60 win at Hamilton, Vetter became the 32nd player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau with a 13-point, three-rebound, and two-assist effort.
Tufts – Junior
James Morakis (Dallas, Texas) helped Tufts to its first 4-0 NESCAC start since 2016-17 as the Jumbos topped both Williams and Middlebury. Morakis averaged 16.5 points and five rebounds per game, shooting 48.3 percent while nailing four of six from deep. Morakis had 13 points in the win over Williams and followed that with a game-high 20 against Middlebury on Saturday.
Williams –
Hudson Hansen (Bellevue, Wash.) averaged 12.0 points per game in two NESCAC games last weekend for the Ephs. The junior scored 16 points and shot 6-for-11 from the field against visiting Connecticut College on Saturday. Hansen went 2-for-5 on 3-pointers against Tufts on Friday.
