NESCAC Player of the Week
Shane Regan – Wesleyan – Sr. – G – Larchmont, N.Y.
Regan
continued to lead the Cardinals to the team's best start in team history (16-0), averaging 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds on 56.3 percent shooting, 44.4 percent from three, and 94.1 percent from the free throw line in just 23.2 minutes per game. Regan started the week with 14 points, eight rebounds, and two steals in a win at Bridgewater State. The senior guard followed with a team-high 21 points (9-10 FT) in a thrilling 67-61 win over Williams at home and finished the week with another 21-point effort (8-11 FG) in the Cardinals' largest win over Middlebury since 1987.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – Senior
Will Scherer (Darnestown, Md.) scored 10 points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, recorded three blocks, and threw in an assist and steal as the Mammoths won their only game of the week, a 72-68 decision over Bates. Schere shot 5-of-8 (58.8 %) from the floor in the win.
Bates –
Babacar Pouye (Carpinteria, Calif.) finished in double figures scoring against both Amherst and Hamilton over the weekend. The sophomore scored 16 points in both contests, making seven of his 13 3-point attempts on the week. The forward shot 50 percent from the field and averaged 5.5 rebounds per game.
Bowdoin - Bowdoin first-year
Ray Cuevas (Ipswich, Mass.) led the Polar Bears with 21 points, including six 3-pointers, at Connecticut College on Saturday.
Colby – First-year
Dan Civello (Weymouth, Mass.) tallied his first career double-double in Colby's NESCAC opening win over Conn. College on Friday. Civello scored a career-high 21 points while collecting 13 rebounds (8 offensive). The center scored 12 of his points in the first half as the Mules jumped out to a 12-point halftime lead.
Conn. College –
Garrett Clar (Victor, N.Y.) averaged 9.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.7 steals per game last week as the Camels went 2-1. The rookie was the catalyst on both ends of the floor in a win over Bowdoin, finishing with 14 points, five boards, four assists, and a season-high five steals. Clar also had nine points and five rebounds against Colby in the NESCAC opener. Earlier in the week the guard grabbed a season-high seven rebounds to go with six points, four assists, and four steals in a win over Emerson.
Hamilton – Senior
Hank Morgan (Caldwell, N.J.) led the Continentals to a 74-60 win at Bates by scoring 27 points and grabbing six rebounds. The senior went 11-for-12 at the free-throw line. Morgan chipped in 12 points, seven boards, and four assists in a 65-62 setback against Franklin & Marshall. Morgan is 21st on the team's all-time scoring list with 1,280 career points.
Middlebury – Junior
Tristan Joseph (Norwalk, Conn.) paced the Panthers with 17 points in a 92-67 win over Hunter in a three-game week. Senior
Sam Stevens (Mansfield, Mass.) moved into 21st-place on Middlebury’s all-time scoring list with 1,060 points in his career.
Trinity – Junior
Jarrel Okorougo (Stoneham, Mass.) averaged 14.7 points, shooting 66.7 percent from the field, with 5.7 assists across three games. Okorougo netted a season-high 23 points with a game-high nine rebounds in an 88-53 victory over Worcester State. Following a nine-point effort against Middlebury, Okorougo notched 12 points and six rebounds against Williams.
Tufts – Junior
Scott Gyimesi (Fair Haven, N.J.) helped the Tufts men's basketball team move to 2-0 in the NESCAC for the first time since 2019-20, as the Jumbos topped Bowdoin and Colby at home. Gyimesi averaged 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, shot 70.8 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the line. Against Bowdoin, Gyimesi tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds, adding two assists. On Saturday against Colby, he finished with a career-high 33 points on 14-of-17 shooting, nailing his only 3-pointer while pulling in 10 more rebounds.
Williams –
Aidan Yates (Charlottesville, Va.) averaged 15.3 points, shot 53 percent from the field, and went 9-for-18 from 3-point range in a 2-1 week for the Ephs. The rookie scored a game-high 15 points in a 56-51 win at No. 6 Trinity on Saturday. Yates scored a career-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 on 3-pointers, against No. 9 Wesleyan on Friday in the NESCAC opener. Yates scored 13 points, shooting 4-of-8 from the field and 3-for-6 on 3-pointers, in a 67-49 win over visiting Springfield on Monday.
