NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week
Casey Winslow – Colby – Sr. - F – Fairfield, Conn.
Winslow collected her first career hat trick in a 5-4 double-overtime win against Bowdoin in the Mules’ only game of the week. The senior got the Mules on the board early in the second quarter and her second tally put Colby ahead just before halftime. After a scoreless first overtime, Winslow sealed the victory for the Mules with the game-winner in the 77th minute, marking Colby's first win over the Polar Bears since 2004.
Kiki Higgins – Williams – Jr. - F – Weston, Mass.
Higgins totaled one goal and two assists in a 3-0 week for the Ephs. The junior netted the game-winning goal with 10:35 remaining in the fourth quarter in a 1-0 victory over No. 6 Tufts. Higgins assisted the game-winner 2:50 into overtime in a 1-0 triumph against No. 3 Babson. Higgins also assisted on a goal in the Ephs 4-0 victory at Union in the season-opener.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Abbey Kays (Oklahoma City, Okla.) had two goals and an assist in a 2-0 week for the No. 14 Mammoths, who posted back-to-back 5-0 wins over Springfield and Conn. College. The senior scored twice in the 5-0 win over the Camels.
Bates –
Haley Dwight (West Newbury, Mass.) got it done on both ends of the field in a 4-1 win for Bates over Trinity. With the game scoreless, Dwight made a defensive save off a penalty corner in the 29th minute of action, preserving the tie as the teams headed into halftime. In the 52nd minute, the sophomore scored her first collegiate goal, taking advantage of a chaotic situation in front of the cage to give Bates a 4-0 lead.
The No. 9 ranked Bobcats are off to a 2-0 start for a third straight season.
Bowdoin - Junior
Mackay Bommer (Rye, N.Y.) and sophomore
Emily Ferguson (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each had a pair of goals for the Polar Bears last week.
Connecticut College –
Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) made a combined 12 saves in a challenging opening week for the Camels. The sophomore made three stops in 30 minutes of action against No. 3 Babson in the season opener and recorded nine saves in Conn. College’s NESCAC opener at No. 14 Amherst.
Hamilton -
Lydon Kelley (Glencoe, Ill.) scored both goals for the Continentals in a 1-1 week. Kelley's goal midway through the second quarter was the difference in a 1-0 win against RPI. The senior added a goal on a penalty corner early in the third quarter of a 3-1 setback at Middlebury. Kelley had one career goal coming into this season.
Middlebury -
Caroline Segal (Glencoe, Ill.) led Middlebury to a 2-0 opening week, posting 10 points (4G, 2A) across a pair of victories. The Panther tallied a career-high six points (2G, 2A) in a 7-0 season-opening win against Castleton, before scoring two of Middlebury’s three goals in a 3-1 win against Hamilton on Saturday. Segal is the only player to record double-digit points last week, sitting atop the NESCAC leaderboard in points (10) and goals (4).
Trinity – Senior
Izzy Deveney (Westport, Conn.) scored in each game last week for the Bantams. Deveney netted her first goal of the season to even the score against Smith College in a season-opening 2-1 win. Deveney added another tally for the Bantams in a 4-1 setback to Bates in the NESCAC opener.
Tufts – Rookie
Eleanor Luft (Ridgefield, Conn.) scored her first collegiate goal in her first collegiate game as No. 6 Tufts team posted a 1-0 win at Wellesley College in its season-opener.
Wesleyan -
Georgia Adams (Andover, Mass.) led the Cardinal offense to a pair of road wins in the opening week, registering eight points on three goals and two assists. The junior scored twice and added an assist in a 5-1 win at WPI. Adams followed up with one goal and one assist in a 4-1 win at Vassar.
