On Wednesdays throughout the academic year the NESCAC will highlight the efforts and events the athletic departments across the conference are doing to support and foster inclusion on their respective campuses.
On September 5th, Williams College hosted the inaugural Athletic Affinity Spaces Welcoming Event at The Davis Center. The event marked a significant initiative to introduce first-year student-athletes to the various affinity spaces within the Williams Athletic Department that are designed to enhance the student-athlete's academic and athletic experiences.
The 150 attendees including student-athletes, coaches, and department staff enjoyed a lively and engaging evening, enhanced by food, drinks, entertainment, and a DJ.
The evening featured informational tabling sessions from multiple affinity groups, where leaders discussed their missions and the specific ways they support student-athletes at Williams. These sessions provided valuable insights into the resources available to student-athletes, helped foster a deeper understanding among the student-athletes, and informed coaching and support staff how to leverage these resources effectively for their programs.
The event not only served as an educational platform but also provided a social gathering promoting collaboration and shared experiences among participants. It successfully created a welcoming atmosphere and set a positive tone for how our affinity spaces will continue to play a crucial role in supporting student-athletes throughout their collegiate journey.
Williams College looks forward to continuing this tradition and enhancing the connectivity and support mechanisms available to our student-athletes through such impactful events.
