HADLEY, Mass. - The 2024 NESCAC Women's Tennis awards were announced on Thursday. Caitlin Ferrante of Wesleyan was named the NESCAC Player of the Year honor while fellow Cardinal Jackie Soloveychik was selected as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Colby senior Sydney Landau was the recipient of the Senior Sportswoman of the Year and the Mules coaches were voted as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers.
Ferrante, who helped the Cardinals capture their fifth straight NESCAC Championship, is the third Cardinal in program history to earn NESCAC Player of the Year honors joining Eudice Chong (2015, 2017, and 2018) and Nika Vesely (2023). Ferrante picked up her fourth and fifth All-NESCAC citations with spots on First Team Singles and First Team Doubles. The senior owns a 13-4 record at No. 1 singles and is 15-3 at No. 1 doubles with partner Sarah Youngberg. Wesleyan earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will host a regional, May 10-12.
Soloveychik is the second Cardinal to garner the NESCAC Rookie of the Year honor, joining Eudice Chong (2015). The newcomer delivered the clinching point to propel Wesleyan past Williams, 5-3, in the NESCAC Semifinals and into the NESCAC Championship match. Soloveychik plays at No. 4 on the Wesleyan ladder and is 16-1 in dual matches and 19-2 overall. In doubles competition, Soloveychik and partner Leila Epstein are 15-3 at the No. 2 spot for the Cardinals.
Landau is the second Colby player to be named the Senior Sportswoman of the Year (Sara Hughes – 2005). The Senior Sportswoman of the Year Award is given annually to the individual who best displayed a high standard of tennis coupled with the highest levels of sportsmanship. Landau earned 12 wins playing at No. 2 and No. 3 on the singles ladder and picked up eight wins on the doubles courts at No. 1 and No. 2 this season.
The Coaching Staff of the Year honor goes to Colby for the first time since 2001. Head coach Erin Reeves and assistant coach Devin Lachapelle were recognized with the honor as voted by their peers. In two years at the helm of the Mules, Reeves has guided Colby to back-to-back appearances in the NESCAC Championship.
