HADLEY, Mass. – The NESCAC announced its year-end awards for women’s lacrosse today. Middlebury’s Hope Shue was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year while Hamilton’s Meghan Lane was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Amherst newcomer Mia Raven was voted the Rookie of the Year while the Middlebury staff was selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year by its peers.
Shue is the third Panther in a row to earn the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year honor. The attack also picked up her third All-NESCAC accolade with a spot on the First Team for the second consecutive season. Shue leads the NESCAC in goals (62) and points (84) as she helped Middlebury win its 12th NESCAC title in program history. In the NESCAC Championship game, the junior became the third Panther to surpass the 200-career goal milestone and ranks fourth in the Middlebury record books with 250 career points. The Panthers’ season continues as they earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Lane is the first player from Hamilton to garner the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. The senior who started all 49 games she played as a Continental led the NESCAC in ground balls (68), caused turnovers (42), and draw controls (70). Lane, who earned her fourth All-NESCAC citation with a spot on the First Team for the second straight year, finished her career with 162 draw controls, 114 caused turnovers, and 239 draws. Hamilton earned a spot in the NESCAC Tournament for the second time in three years.
Raven is the second Mammoth to be voted NESCAC Rookie of the Year (Maia Noyes, 2018). The newcomer finished the season with 41 points on 25 goals and 16 assists while starting all 16 games. Raven led Amherst in ground balls (43), caused turnovers (31), and draw controls (85) this season. The Mammoths qualified for the NESCAC Tournament for the 22nd time in program history and the third year in a row.
The Middlebury staff was honored as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year. The 2024 season marks the 10th time the Panther coaches were recognized with the award. Led by head coach Kate Livesay and assistants Amy Patton and Olivia Seymour, the Panthers posted an unbeaten NESCAC season (10-0) for the third straight season and won their 12th NESCAC Championship. Middlebury stands at 18-0 and earned a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament.
