Why did you choose to attend Amherst?
I chose to attend Amherst because it had everything I was looking for in a college. It has rigorous academics and great professors who are committed to supporting their students in and out of the classroom. It also has a competitive softball program which allows me to continue playing the sport I love. Amherst also has a diverse community of students and faculty that are kind and welcoming, which makes it feel like home.
Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I chose to be a Division III student-athlete because it allowed me to explore all of my passions both on and off the field. I have the freedom to take interesting and challenging classes while still having time for softball and life outside of school. I believe that being a Division III student-athlete has allowed me to make the most out of my college experience.

What’s your go-to warmup song?

What has been your favorite class outside of your major?
My favorite class that I took outside of my major was an art history class called Roma Redux, which I took this past fall. I loved this class because we studied ancient Roman art and history during the semester, and the class culminated with a two-week trip to Rome over our January break so we could observe everything we learned about in person! It was amazing to see the architecture and intricate artwork up close, and it was a memorable experience that I am so grateful for.
Who is your favorite professor?
My favorite professor is Dr. Sheila Jaswal because she takes the time to get to know her students. She keeps up with sports, concerts, and other events on campus, taking any opportunity she can to engage with students. She has provided such wonderful support for me in my time at Amherst and will always greet me with a big smile and a wave. I have also had the opportunity to work alongside her as a chemistry lab teaching assistant and we had a lot of fun teaching students and sharing our passion for science!
What internships/research projects have you participated in?
I am currently finishing up my senior thesis research that I started this summer with the Chemistry Department. My project focuses on stabilizing organic nanotubes in aqueous solvents. This experience has been an amazing opportunity to apply concepts I have learned in the classroom to a research question with practical applications. I have enjoyed working in Professor Hansen’s lab and seeing the different aspects of scientific research firsthand.
What is your favorite place on your campus?
My favorite place on campus is Memorial Hill because you get a gorgeous look at the Pioneer Valley year-round, and it is also a great spot to hang out with friends. Though the walk to the top can be challenging at times, the view is always worth it!
Who has been the most influential person to you during your time in college?
It is hard to pick just one person because the Amherst College Softball Class of 2023 all had a huge impact on me in our three years together. I felt welcomed at Amherst right away as they showed me what it means to be part of this team. They are without a doubt some of the coolest people I know, and I admire them so much. I am incredibly grateful for them and their friendship!
What is something you enjoy doing when not in class or competing in your sport?
I love playing any type of word game, but especially the New York Times games. I play the wordle, connections, spelling bee, and crossword pretty much daily. I also do the New York Times mini crossword and compete with my mom to see who can solve it the fastest.
