NESCAC Player of the Week
Elise Siciliano – Bowdoin – Fy. – SS – Shrewsbury, Mass.
Siciliano enjoyed a torrid start to the season in Florida, batting .552 (16-29) with hits in nine of the 10 games, including five extra-base knocks, the Polar Bears played last week. Across the 10 games, Siciliano scored 10 runs, totaled 10 RBI, and walked eight times, as the Polar Bears started the season 8-2.
NESCAC Pitcher of the Week
Sadie Leonard – Williams – So. – P – Tiburon, Calif.
Leonard earned a complete-game, seven-inning win in the circle, throwing a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Ephs opened the season with a 1-0 win at California Lutheran on Sunday in Thousand Oaks, California.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
America Rangel (Pico Rivera, Calif.) batted .667 (4-6) with a .714 on-base percentage in the Mammoths’ season-opener on Sunday. The senior had all three Amherst hits in a loss to Endicott and also stole two bases in two attempts.
Bates – Sophomore
Kennedy Jones (Ocean Springs, Md.) had the Bobcats' lone RBI against Nazareth on Sunday, contributing a sacrifice fly in a 3-2 loss. Jones followed that up with a 2-for-3 performance against Grinnell.
Isabella Albro (New York, N.Y.) impressed in her collegiate debut on Sunday against Nazareth, going the distance and allowing just two earned runs on seven hits while striking out five batters.
Colby –
Courtney Schumacher (Winnetka, Ill.) led the Mules to a doubleheader sweep of Thomas College in Colby's season opener on Thursday. In the nightcap, the sophomore accounted for runs in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th innings going 4-for-4 at the plate with three RBI, three runs scored, a double, and a home run. Abby Orso (York Harbor, Maine) threw 4.0 innings in relief as Colby came back to defeat Thomas College. Orso allowed no earned runs or walks while scattering three hits and striking out two.
Hamilton -
Alexis Mayer (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) hit .313 (10-for-32) with seven RBI, five runs scored, five extra-base hits, three walks, three stolen bases, and a .625 slugging percentage in 10 games. In a 6-3 win against Babson, Mayer went 3-for-4 with a triple and a home run and drove in two. Teagan Graham (Utopia, Ontario) went 2-1 with a save and a 2.21 ERA. Graham pitched the final 3.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits in a 4-3 win against SUNY Geneseo in the season opener. Later that day, Graham tossed a scoreless seventh for the junior's first career save in a 6-3 victory against Babson. Graham hurled a seven-inning shutout in a 2-0 triumph against Hood, allowing four hits and tying a career-high with eight strikeouts. The shutout was Graham's second with the Continentals.
Middlebury – Sophomore
Kristyn Carroll (Kinnelon, N.J.) helped Middlebury post a 3-1 opening weekend. The Panther averaged .500 at the plate, recording seven hits over the weekend. Carroll had a team-high six RBI, including one homer and a stolen base.
Trinity – Junior shortstop
Taylor Mikolajczak (Johns Creek, Ga.) went 4-for-4, which included a grand slam, and drove in 7 RBI to lift the Bantams to the 9-8 victory of Susquehanna. Mikolajczak totaled 13 hits, seven RBI, five runs scored and batted .520 over the course of the week.
Tufts – Graduate student
Josie Steinberg (Larchmont, N.Y.) went 5-for-13 (.385) with three doubles and drove in eight runs while scoring once as the Jumbos opened the season with four straight wins in Florida. Steinberg recorded multi-hit games in a 7-2 win over Manchester and a 7-1 win over William Paterson and totaled seven RBI in the pair of contests.
Sophia DiCocco (Bozrah, Conn.) posted a 0.58 ERA and picked up two wins to open the 2024 campaign. The senior went seven innings, scattering six hits, and did not allow an earned run in a 3-1 victory over Ohio Wesleyan. DiCocco struck out four batters and allowed seven hits in 5.1 innings of work in a 7-1 win over William Paterson.
Wesleyan -
Waverly Smart (Franklin, Mass.) batted .486 (17-for-35) for the week in 10 games played (all starts) while adding three doubles, five RBI, nine runs scored, and two stolen bases. Smart’s fielding at shortstop has made a key difference for the Cardinals early in the season as she has just three errors in 43 total chances, helping turn three double plays in 2024. The newcomer recorded a hit in 8-of-10 games and totaled six multi-hit games including three straight to end the week. Smart’s best outing was in a win over St. Lawrence when she went 4-for-5 with one double, two RBI, and one run scored. The rookie also went 3-for-3 with one double, one RBI, and two runs scored in a win over Rutgers-Camden.
Williams –
Emily Borrazzo (South Burlington, Vt.) went 3-of-3 batting, with two RBI and one double, in her collegiate debut in a 3-1 win at California Luthern University on Sunday. In the sixth inning, Borrazzo connected on a two-run double to left-center, giving the Ephs a 3-0 advantage.
