WACO, Texas - Five NESCAC football players were selected to the AFCA All-America Teams, the most in conference history. Thomas Perry of Middlebury earned First Team honors while teammate Thomàs Kenary, Hamilton’s Tighe Hoey, Tufts’ Ty Richardson, and Trinity’s Matthew Jumes were selected to the Second Team. The five players selected in 2024 brings the NESCAC's total AFCA All-America count to 49.
Perry earns All-American honors for the first time in his career. The senior was tabbed to the All-NESCAC First Team Offense for the third consecutive year. The offensive lineman started every game this season and was named to the New England Football Writers All-New England Team. Prior to the start of the year, Perry was one of just two Division III players to earn a spot on the prestigious Reese's Senior Bowl Watch List, and one of 11 non-Division I players.
Kenary earned All-NESCAC accolades for the fourth time in his career, garnering a first-team nod for the third straight year. Kenary leaves Middlebury owning career marks in sacks (30), sack yardage (227), tackles for loss (51) and TFL yardage (267). The Panther reached the 100 career solo tackles plateau this fall, running his overall mark to 158 (102 solo). He paced the squad in TFLs this year with 11.0 while tying for a team-high 5.5 sacks.
Hoey was named to the second team and is one of only two punters on the All-America team. He was the first Hamilton football player honored on the AFCA All-America team since running back Eric Grey '93 in 1991. Hoey is third in NCAA Division III with an average of 44.1 yards per punt. He finished the season with 2,295 yards on 52 punts, 16 of which traveled 50 or more yards with a long of 70. Hoey placed 18 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line and six went for touchbacks. Hoey is a three-time member of the All-NESCAC Team. Hoey also played defensive back for the Continentals in 2024 and was credited with 29 tackles, a forced fumble, and two pass breakups in nine games.
Jumes adds the 2024 Second Team selection with his First Team honor last season, becoming the second player in Trinity’s history to be a two-time AFCA Division III Coaches All-America Team selection, joining Chris Simmons (2016, 2017). Jumes was perfect this season, connecting on 7-of-7 field goal attempts and 37-of-37 PATs. Jumes, a three-time All-NESCACAC and two-time NEWFW All-Star, ranked fourth in the NESCAC in scoring and second among kickers with 58 points. Jumes finishes his career as the program leader in field goals made (32), field goals attempted (37), field goal percentage (.865), PATs made (157), and PATs attempted, and ranks third all-time in PAT percentage (.963).
Richardson becomes the first Tufts defensive back in program history to be honored by the AFCA, as he is only the eighth Jumbo ever to earn the accolade. Richardson finished the 2024 season with a NESCAC leading six interceptions, totaling 116 return yards. The sophomore also added 28 tackles and four more pass break-ups. The defensive back was named All-NESCAC First Team after helping the Tufts defense post the second best passing defense in the league, allowing only 177.3 yards per game. Tufts scoring defense was third in the NESCAC as well.

*-2023 AFCA All-American $-2022-2023 AFCA All-American
Team Background: The AFCA has selected an All-America team every year since 1945. The five teams now chosen for each AFCA division evolved from a single 11-player squad in 1945. From 1945 until 1967, only one team was chosen.
From 1967 through 1971, two teams – University Division and College Division – were selected. In 1972, the College Division was split into College I and College II.
In 1979, the University Division was split into two teams — Division I-A and Division I-AA.
In 1996, the College I and College II teams were renamed Division II and Division III, respectively. The AFCA began selecting an NAIA-only team in 2006. Also in 2006, the Division I-A and Division I-AA teams were renamed Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), respectively.
From 1965-81, a 22-player (11 offensive, 11 defensive) team was chosen. In 1982, a punter and placekicker were added to the team. In 1997, a return specialist was added, giving us the current 25-player team. The return specialist position was replaced by an all-purpose player in 2006. In 2016, the AFCA added a second team All-America.
Selection Process: The AFCA’s Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA’s seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
