HADLEY, Mass. – The Wesleyan Cardinals, the NESCAC Champions, claimed three of the four individual NESCAC Football awards announced on Tuesday. The Cardinals’ duo of Chase Wilson and Ben Carbeau were named the NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year and NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. Colby wide receiver Jack Nye was selected as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. The Wesleyan coaching staff was voted as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers.
Wilson, a wide receiver, is the second Wesleyan player to be named NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year (Mike Breuler, 2017). The senior ranked second in the conference with seven touchdown catches and averaged 92.7 yards per game and 19.4 yards per catch. Wilson finished the year with 43 catches for 834 yards in nine games. He had a season-high 155 yards receiving versus Middlebury in the season opener and recorded the longest reception in the conference this season with an 87-yard touchdown catch against Bates.
Carbeau is the second Cardinal to garner NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in four seasons and the third Wesleyan player to earn the award in program history (Nick Helbig 2022 & 2021, Jake Bussani 2014). Carbeau was part of a Wesleyan defense that allowed a NESCAC-low 14.6 points per game. The senior ranked second in the NESCAC in tackles for loss (14.5), was fourth in tackles (66), and tied for third in sacks (7). Carbeau also recorded a fumble recovery, forced a fumble, and had two quarterback hurries in 2024. Carbeau has a season-high 11 tackles in a win over Tufts.
Colby wide receiver Jack Nye is the third Mule to be named NESCAC Rookie of the Year (Matt Hersch 2018, Aaron Stepka 2001). Nye saw action in all nine games and totaled 36 catches for a team-high 526 yards while averaging 58.4 yards per game. Nye’s lone touchdown catch was a 41-yard reception against Bates that gave the Mules the lead for good in a win over the Bobcats. The rookie finished the game with a season-high 122 yards receiving.
The Wesleyan coaching staff is honored as the NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time in program history. Head coach Dan DiCenzo and his staff guided the squad to the team’s first outright NESCAC title and second overall (2013) with an 8-1 record in his 10th season at the helm of the Cardinals.
