NESCAC Player of the Week
Andrew Heinze – Middlebury – GK – So. – North Andover, Mass.
Heinze was sensational in goal this weekend, helping Middlebury to a pair of NESCAC wins. The goalie posted 18 saves, including seven in the third period on Friday to earn his first career shutout against Bowdoin. Heinze followed that up with a career-high 39 stops in a 3-1 win over Colby in a game where the Panthers were outshot 40-18. The sophomore leads the NESCAC with a 0.50 goals against average following the pair of victories in the crease.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Zack Jesse (Dallas, Pa.) had a hand in both of Amherst’s goals in a 5-2 loss to Hamilton last week. The sophomore scored the first goal of the season for Amherst, tying the game 1-1 in the first period, and nine minutes later assisted on a go-ahead goal.
Bowdoin – Senior
Luke Wheeler (Golden, Colo.) scored both Polar Bear goals, including the overtime game-winner on Saturday, to lead Bowdoin to a 2-1 victory at Williams.
Colby – Rookie
Cooper Rautenstrauch (Buffalo, N.Y.) led Colby to an opening night win at Williams. In his first collegiate game in net for the Mules, the goaltender collected 28 saves in the 4-1 victory over Williams. Rautenstrauch sealed the game in the final frame with 11 saves in the period.
Conn. College - Senior defender
John Harrington (Braintree, Mass.) paced Connecticut College on the opening weekend as the Camels picked up wins over Trinity and Wesleyan. On Friday night in the season opener, Harrington potted the first goal of the campaign just three minutes into the contest, scoring on his only shot of the evening, as Conn. defeated defending NESCAC Champion Trinity, 4-2. On Saturday in a 4-1 win at Wesleyan, Harrington notched an assist on the first goal of the game by Andrew Eberling, before adding an insurance marker late in the first period, extending the Camels’ lead to 3-0.
Hamilton –
Jackson Krock (Mars, Pa.) finished with five points and won 30-of-42 faceoffs in two road wins for the Continentals. Krock recorded his first career hat trick and added an assist in a 5-2 victory at Amherst. The junior added a secondary assist on a goal that gave Hamilton a 4-0 lead in the third period of the Continentals' 5-1 win at Anna Maria.
Trinity – Senior
Alexander Mozian (Old Greenwich, Conn.) led the Bantams in scoring during a 1-1 weekend for Trinity, potting two goals with two assists. Mozian delivered a goal and an assist in the Bantams season-opening 4-2 loss to Conn. College. Mozian netted the game-winning goal and added an assist as Trinity downed Tufts, 6-3.
Tufts – A transfer from UMass Lowell,
Jon Horn (Southbury, Conn.) scored a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point game in his Tufts debut on Friday night in a 5-3 win at Wesleyan. Horn scored two of his goals in the first period as the Jumbos jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The sophomore added an assist on a goal early in the second period for a 3-0 Tufts margin. Horn recorded the hat trick with a goal early in the third period to put Tufts up 5-1.
Williams –
Owen Stadheim (Lyme, N.H.) recorded two assists last week for the Ephs. The senior picked up an assist in the third period on Senior Night in the season opener on Friday against Colby. Stadheim also handed out a third-period assist against visiting Bowdoin on Saturday.
