NESCAC Player of the Week
Ben Callahan-Gold – Trinity – Sr. – F/C – New York, N.Y.
Callahan-Gold powered the unbeaten Bantams to a pair of victories, averaging 26.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Callahan-Gold, who shot 46 percent from long range for the week, netted a game-high 27 points in 28 minutes, connecting on a career-high seven 3-pointers, with eight rebounds in an 88-69 victory at Worcester State. In a NESCAC overtime thriller at Wesleyan, Callahan-Gold tallied a game-high 25 points, including 14 in the second half, with six rebounds and two blocks in the 79-77 win. Callahan Gold’s free throws with six seconds left in the extra period sealed the win for the Bantams.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Bobby Sommers (Southborough, Mass.) averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game with four steals in a 2-0 week for the Mammoths. The junior shot 53.0 percent from the floor (9-for-17).
Bates –
Simon McCormick (Whitefield, Maine) turned in a pair of impressive performances for the Bobcats last week. The senior tallied 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting to go along with six rebounds and five assists on Wednesday at UMaine-Farmington. The guard followed up with 12 points on 4-for-7 shooting, three rebounds, and three assists on Saturday at Tufts. McCormick shot 7-of-14 from 3-point range over the course of the two games.
Colby –
Marcos Montiel (Somerville, Mass.) led Colby past rival Bowdoin on Saturday for its first conference win of the season. The first year led all scorers with a career-high 21 points, including 11 in the second half when Colby erased a two-point halftime deficit to eventually win by 13. In a midweek contest, Montiel scored the game-winning basket with seconds remaining to deliver Husson only its third loss of the season.
Conn. College –
David Murray (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) averaged 20.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game last week as the Camels went 1-1 in non-conference play. The senior began the week with a team-high 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals in an overtime loss at Albertus Magnus. Murray also posted 20 points, six boards, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in a 71-59 victory over UMass Dartmouth, helping the Camels to their 10th non-league win of the season.
Hamilton -
Teja Singh (Seattle, Wash.) averaged 14.0 points and shot 44.4 percent (8-of-18) from 3-point range in three games. The junior guard started the week with eight points and a career-high seven assists in a 94-70 win against SUNY Potsdam and dropped in 20 points in a 71-67 overtime setback at Amherst. Singh finished the busy week with 14 points in an 84-76 loss against SUNY Polytechnic.
Middlebury – Senior
Noah Osher (Northbrook Ill.) averaged 24.0 points per game in a 1-1 week for Middlebury. The Panther led all scorers against Williams with 26 points, while recording a career-best five steals. Osher moved into 19th place on Middlebury’s all-time scoring list with 1,073 for his career.
Tufts – Sophomore
Joshua Bernstein (Miami, Fla.) returned to the starting lineup for the Jumbos and helped Tufts top Bates for its first conference win of the year. Bernstein was 6-of-7 from the floor in the victory, tallying 16 points while pulling in eight rebounds, blocking two shots, and collecting two steals.
Wesleyan – Junior
Shane Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) poured in a career-high 29 points with five rebounds and four assists on Thursday at Mitchell. The guard followed with 10 points, three rebounds, and three assists against Trinity on Saturday.
Williams –
Alex Lee (Houston, Texas) averaged 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week for the Ephs. The sophomore scored a team-high and season-best 22 points in a 91-82 NESCAC win at Middlebury on Saturday. Lee made a season-high four 3-pointers (4-of-7) against the Panthers and tied a career-high with nine made field goals (9-of-14).
