NESCAC Field Hockey Player of the Week
Maria Femia - Bates - Jr. - Forward - Canton, Mass. 

Femia led the charge in a 3-0 week for Bates. The junior opened the season with two goals and an assist in a win over the University of Southern Maine. Femia followed that up with another tally in a shutout victory over Thomas and capped off the week with a pair of goals in a 3-1 win over Bowdoin, marking the Bobcats' first win in Brunswick since 1982. Femia's five goals on the season come on six shot attempts and is tied for first in the NESCAC in goals scored.

Amherst
Muffie Mazambani (Harare, Zimbabwe) scored twice and assisted another goal in a 1-1 week for the Mammoths. The senior tallied both goals and the assist on a 6-1 win over Smith College in the season opener.

Bowdoin - Senior Faith Jennings (Ghent, N.Y.) scored three goals last week, including two in a season-opening win over the University of New England.

Colby -  Pernilla Shaw (Bow, N.H.) opened the scoring for the 2023 season with the first goal of the game against Wesleyan and added three more against Thomas for the junior’s second career hat trick (2021). Senior Emily Loeb (Winnetka, Ill.) tallied a career-high 19 saves in a setback against Wesleyan.  

Connecticut College - Liz Winemaster (Lake Forest, Ill.) played every minute in goal last week and totaled 22 saves as the Camels opened the 2023 season. The first-year recorded 11 saves in her collegiate debut against Babson and limited the Beavers to only one goal until the fourth quarter. Winemaster also registered 11 saves in the conference opener against Tufts, including a key stop on a penalty shot in the third period to keep the Camels in contention.

Hamilton - Alana King (Granby, Conn.) recorded an assist in both wins for the Continentals in their 2-0 week. The senior assisted on the first goal in a 3-1 win at RPI and delivered the assist on Hamilton's only goal in a 2-1 penalty stroke shootout victory against Trinity. King scored the first of the Continentals' two successful attempts during the shootout.

MiddleburyCaroline Segal (Glencoe, Ill.) tallied one goal in each of Middlebury’s three victories during the opening week of the season. Segal recorded eight total points, including a pair of assists to help the Panthers shut out all three opponents. The junior’s week was highlighted by a second-quarter goal in an eventual 3-0 win over Amherst. 

Trinity - Senior Katrina Winfield (Wilmington, Del.) notched what proved to be the game-winning at 7:56 in the second period in a 2-0 win over Smith. The season-opening victory also marked the first win for head coach Jessica Bergen at the helm of the Bantams.

TuftsAndrea DelGiudice (Bedford, N.H.) scored three goals and was part of a defensive effort that limited opponents to just one goal as Tufts opened its season with a 5-0 victory against Wellesley on and a 4-1 conference victory at Connecticut College. All three of DelGiudice’s goals came on penalty corner opportunities. The two tallies against Wellesley gave the Jumbos leads of 3-0 and 5-0. The goal versus the Camels came in the first quarter and tied the score at 1-1 after Connecticut College had taken an early 1-0 lead. The senior’s defensive work helped Tufts hold the two opponents to just four shots on goal overall.

Wesleyan - Kenzie Mauro (Scarsdale, N.Y.) recorded seven points with three goals and one assist for the Cardinals who start the season at 2-0. Mauro opened her career with one goal and one assist in a 3-0 home win over WPI. Her goal against the Engineers stood as the game-winner. The first-year followed up with her first career multi-goal game as the Cardinals defeated Colby, 6-3, on the road. The six goals for Wesleyan tied for the second-most goals scored by the Cardinals in a NESCAC game and was the highest single-game scoring total since 2011. 

WilliamsKiki Higgins (Weston, Mass.) recorded three goals in a 1-1 week for the Ephs. The sophomore found the back of the net twice in an 8-0 season-opening victory over Clark. Higgins also contributed one goal in a 2-1 setback against visiting Babson.
