Top Seeds Reach NESCAC Women's Lacrosse Championship Semifinals

HADLEY, Mass. – For the fifth consecutive season the remaining rounds of the NESCAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be played at Middlebury College. All four top seeds earned quarterfinal victories for the third straight year. The Panthers will host the semifinals on May 6 and the championship game on May 7 at Kohn Field.

No. 1 Middlebury def. No. 8 Bowdoin, 16-6 | Box Score
  • Records: Middlebury (16-0) / Bowdoin (6-10)
  • Middlebury remained unbeaten on the season with a 16-6 win over Bowdoin.
  • The Panthers led 6-2 after the first quarter and outscored Bowdon 9-4 in the second half, including 6-0 in the fourth quarter.
  • Hope Shue led all scorers with seven goals.
  • Annie Enrietto made 10 saves for Middlebury while Sophie Brett was credited with seven stops for the Polar Bears.
  • Middlebury advances to the NESCAC Semifinals for the seventh year in a row and will face No. 4 Colby. The Panthers are 5-5 against the Mules in the NESCAC postseason series.
No. 2 Wesleyan def. No. 7 Williams, 11-6 | Box Score
  • Records: Wesleyan (15-1) / Williams (7-8)
  • Wesleyan led by as many as eight goals and held off a late charge by Williams to post an 11-6 victory.
  • Trailing by eight with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Ephs rallied to score four of the final five goals of the contest but the comeback effort fell short.
  • Katie Balicki led Wesleyan with four points on three goals and an assist while six different Ephs accounted for the six goals for the squad.
  • Abby Wolk and Izzy Weintraub combined for nine saves for the Cardinals while Anj Raman and Caroline Pratt totaled seven stops for Williams.
  • Wesleyan reaches the semifinals for the third time in program history, all within the last three years. The Cardinals will play No. 3 Tufts in the semifinals. Wesleyan is 0-2 against the Jumbos in the NESCAC Championship.
No. 3 Tufts def. No. 6 Amherst, 11-9 | Box Score
  • Records: Tufts (13-3) / Amherst (9-7)
  • Tufts eased out to a 7-2 lead after the first 30 minutes of action and held off the Mammoths in an 11-9 victory.
  • In the second half, Amherst outscored the Jumbos, 7-4, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
  • Margie Carden netted four goals for Tufts and Emma Joyce recorded four points on a pair of goals and assists.
  • Bridget Finley led the Mammoths with four goals.
  • Courtney Kaufman made eight saves for the Jumbos while Jessye Salmon was credited with 10 stops for Amherst.
  • Tufts, the two-time defending NESCAC Champion, returns to the semifinals for the third straight season. The Jumbos will face No. 2 Wesleyan and owns a 2-0 advantage over the Cardinals in the tournament series.
No. 4 Colby def. No. 5 Trinity, 12-10 | Box Score
  • Records: Colby (12-4) / Trinity (11-5)
  • Trinity led 6-2 after the first quarter, but the Mules rallied to outscore the Bantams 6-1 in the second frame and held an 8-7 lead at the half.
  • The second half was low scoring as the teams combined for seven goals.
  • Trinity sliced Colby’s lead to one, 11-10, with 6:01 remaining in the game, but Paige Saudek scored an insurance goal at the 3:26 mark to push the Mules’ lead to two, 12-10, and Colby was able to hold off the Bantams the rest of the way.
  • Saudek finished the game with a team-high three goals and Lily Ives led Trinity with a hat trick.
  • Colby advances to the semifinals for the second straight season and will take on top-seeded Middlebury. The Mules are 5-5 against the Panthers in the NESCAC postseason series.
