NESCAC Player of the Week
Alex Lee – Williams – So. – G – Houston, Texas
Lee averaged 18.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game as the Ephs went 2-0 last week. The sophomore shot 60.9 percent from the field and was 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Lee scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 8-of-13 from the field, and pulled down six rebounds, in a 62-60 non-conference win at Wesleyan on Saturday. The guard added 17 points, going 6-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the foul line, in a 71-67 triumph over visiting Emmanuel on Tuesday.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Mohammed Alausa (Chicago, Ill.) averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in two Mammoth victories last week. The senior scored 14 points in a win over Albertus Magnus and added nine points, three steals, two blocks, and two assists in a victory over Yeshiva.
Bates –
Babacar Pouye (Carpinteria, Calif.) recorded the first two double-doubles of his collegiate career last week. On Tuesday, he tallied 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds against Husson. The newcomers exploded for a career-high 24 points on 6-of-12 shooting and added career-highs of 12 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks on Saturday against Emory.
Bowdoin - Sophomore
Alex Halpern (New York, N.Y.) scored a team-high 13 points, including a key, game-clinching basket with 1:10 remaining, as Bowdoin defeated Carnegie Mellon 66-62 on Sunday.
Colby – Junior
Jack Lawson (St. Louis, Mo.) tied a career-high with 25 points in a setback against Brandeis on Saturday. The junior accounted for 44 percent of Colby's scoring and is averaging 14.8 points per game this season, good for 10th in the NESCAC.
Conn. College -
David Murray (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) averaged a team-high 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the floor last week as the Camels posted a 1-1 mark. The senior recorded a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in a win over rival Coast Guard, keeping Conn unbeaten on the road this season. Murray finished the week with 14 points and five boards against NYU.
Hamilton – Junior
Hank Morgan (Caldwell, N.J.) averaged 20.0 points and 5.0 rebounds and added six assists and three steals in three games. Morgan poured in a career-high 30 points against Carnegie Mellon, the first 30-point performance for the Continentals since February 2020.
Middlebury –
Kuba Cwalina (Middle Village, N.Y.) posted career-high point totals in back-to-back games. The rookie tallied 10 points on Saturday versus Rochester, including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. The guard added 13 points on Sunday to lead the Panthers in scoring against the University of Chicago.
Trinity – Graduate student
Dana Smith (Providence, R.I.) took home the 2023 Ed Hockenbury Classic MVP honor after helping guide the Bantams to the title. Smith filled the stat sheet with seven points, five rebounds, two assists, one block, and one steal in the Bantams’ 76-44 win over Framingham State. Smith added a season-high 13 points with a game-high five assists and three rebounds as the Bantams downed host Norwich, 72-54, in the championship game.
Tufts – Center
Joshua Bernstein (Miami, Fla.) helped Tufts post a 3-0 record last week, as the Jumbos moved to 8-0 for the first time in program history. Bernstein posted 13.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, shot 76.1 percent for the week, added eight blocks, and made all seven of his free throws. Against WPI, Bernstein was 5-of-7 for 12 points, adding eight rebounds and two blocks. Against Clark, Bernstein totaled 15 points and eight rebounds, blocked five shots, and finished up the week with 12 points in 18 minutes, adding nine rebounds and a block in a win over UMass Dartmouth.
Wesleyan – Junior
Nicky Johnson (Lexington, Mass.) averaged a double-double of 14.5 points and 10.5 assists with 3.0 steals and a 4.2 assist/turnover ratio in two games last week. Johnson registered 15 points, 10 assists, and three steals in a Tuesday night win over Worcester State. The guard followed with 14 points, 11 assists, and three steals against Williams in a non-conference game on Saturday.
