NESCAC Player of the Week
Scott Gyimesi – Tufts – So. – F – Fair Haven, N.J.
Gyimesi helped Tufts knock off Emerson and Suffolk. Gyimesi finished with an average of 15.0 points and 15.5 rebounds, adding 4.0 blocks, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 70 percent from the field for the week. Gyimesi started the week with a 15-point, 19-rebound performance against Emerson, going 7-for-8 from the field. The sophomore added another double-double of 15 points and 12 boards and went 7-for-12 from the field at Suffolk. Gyimesi has totaled a double-double in all three games this season.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst – Junior
Will Scherer (Darnestown, Md.) averaged 9.0 points and 15.5 rebounds per game as the Mammoths went 2-0 and captured the Ken Wright Invitational title. In a 66-42 win over MCLA in the championship game, Scher posted a double-double with 10 points and 22 rebounds. The 22 rebounds tied a single-game record at Amherst. Scherer shot 49.4 percent (9-of-19) from the floor in the two games.
Bates – At Western New England University,
Peter Psyhogeos (Yarmouth, Maine) was named to the Hampton Inn Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team. The guard poured in a team-high 21 points in 27 minutes on 9-for-15 shooting against Cortland, drained 3-of-4 from 3-point range, and grabbed seven rebounds to go along with a pair of steals. That was on the heels of an efficient performance against Kean, where the sophomore scored seven points on 3-of-6 shooting and recorded three steals in 18 minutes of playing time.
Bowdoin - Junior
James McGowan (Westwood, Mass.) scored a game-high 26 points with 10 rebounds to lead Bowdoin to a win over Bates last week.
Colby -
Max Poulton (Wellesley, Mass.) tied a career-high with 27 points in a win over UMass Dartmouth. The sophomore tallied 16 points the day before in a setback against Saint Joseph (CT). Poulton, who earned all-tournament team recognition, totaled 14 rebounds across the two-game set.
Conn. College -
David Murray (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game while leading the Camels to a 2-0 week. In his season debut, the senior finished with 12 points, two rebounds, and three blocks in a 71-62 win over Purchase. Murray also recorded a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 69-53 victory at Roger Williams. Murray shot 15-for-23 (65.2%) for the week as the Camels improved to 3-0.
Hamilton -
Teja Singh (Seattle, Wash.) averaged 18.7 points and 4.3 assists in a 2-1 week for the Continentals. Singh shot 55.0 percent (22-of-40) from the field including 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from 3-point range. The junior guard was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Hamilton Invitational Tournament. Singh tied a career-high with 25 points and added five assists in an 83-65 win against Neumann in the championship game and posted 10 points and four assists in a 90-68 victory against SUNY Morrisville in the opening round. Singh started the week with 21 points and four assists in a seven-point loss to Ithaca.
Middlebury –
Sam Stevens (Mansfield, Mass.) recorded his second double-double (21 points, 10 rebounds) of the season in a 76-73 loss to Wittenberg on Saturday. The Panther tallied 41 points, 22 rebounds, and three blocks over a three-game week. The guard leads Middlebury with 17.8 points per game and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Trinity –
Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) led the Bantams in scoring in a pair of wins at the LaFrance Hospitality Tournament. In an 84-52 victory over host UMass-Dartmouth, Vetter scored a team-high 13 points with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Vetter netted a game-high 23 points with five rebounds and two assists in a 70-58 win over Saint Joseph's (CT).
Wesleyan – Junior
Shane Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) averaged 21.0 points per game on 48.5 percent shooting from the floor with 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 35.3 minutes per game, to lead Wesleyan to the Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic Championship. Regan opened with 19 points and six assists in a win over Skidmore on Friday, then scored 23 points (9-18 FG), with five rebounds, and two steals in a 73-71 come-from-behind win over Endicott in the title game. Wesleyan overcame a 16-point second-half deficit and a 70-61 deficit with just over four minutes left. Regan scored 18 of his game-high 23 points in the second half against the Gulls, leading the comeback win.
Williams –
Alex Lee (Houston, Texas) averaged 19.3 points per game and shot 56.4 percent from the field (22-of-39) during a 3-0 week for the Ephs. The sophomore led the Ephs with 19 points, tied for a game-high seven rebounds, and shot 8-of-12 from the field in an 82-75 win at Vassar. Lee dropped a game-high 20 points, going 8-for-13 from the field and 3-for-5 on 3-pointers in a 69-62 win over Worcester State on Day 1 of the Williams Purple & Gold Classic. Lee led all players with 19 points in a 66-58 overtime win over St. Lawrence in the championship game of the Purple & Gold Classic.
