NESCAC Football Offensive Player of the Week
Jack Sawyer – Colby – Jr. – WR – Weston, Conn.
Sawyer had both of Colby's touchdowns, including the game-winner on the first play of overtime, in the Mules' first win over Wesleyan since 2009 and the Cardinals' first loss of the season. The junior collected seven receptions for 129 yards, with scoring strikes of nine yards in the first quarter to put Colby in front 7-6, and the decisive 25-yard score in overtime to push the Mules in front 20-13. Sawyer recorded multiple touchdowns for the first time in his career and the 129 yards were the receiver’s second-highest total at Colby.
NESCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week
Dave Filias – Middlebury – Jr. – DL – Lynn, Mass.
Filias had three solo tackles in the fourth quarter to set up the game-winning touchdown drive with less than one minute on the clock in Middlebury’s 12-10 win over Williams. Filias tallied a career-best nine tackles (eight solo) for a loss of seven yards on the day. The Panther also had one sack for a loss of six yards and leads the NESCAC with six sacks on the season. Filias’ all-around day also featured a forced fumble and a pass breakup.
NESCAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Christos Tzoumaskas – Colby – Fy. – K – Birmingham, Mich.
Tzoumakas connected on two field goals and two PAT's against om Colby’s overtime victory over Wesleyan. The first-year kicker's first field goal at the end of the first half tied for the longest field goal in the conference this season (42 yards) and sent Colby into halftime with a 10-6 lead. Tzoumakas’ second field goal of the game knotted the score at 13-23 with seven minutes remaining and forced overtime.
NESCAC Weekly Honor Roll
Amherst –
Jack Cox (Old Lyme, Conn.) came off the bench for an injured starter and completed 17-of-26 passes for 167 yards and one touchdown pass while rushing five times for 11 yards and a touchdown. The junior accounted for both Amherst touchdowns in a 17-7 victory over Bates … Sophomore
Kevin Agnew (Chatham, N.J.) had a fumble recovery and an interception against the Bobcats. The Mammoths held Bates to 221 yards and forced three turnovers …
Matthew Kelley (Norfolk, Mass.) booted a 35-yard field goal in his only attempt of the day to give Amherst a 3-0 lead en route to a win at Bates. The first-year also had two touchbacks on four kickoffs in the game.
Bates –
Sergio Beltran (East Palo Alto, Calif.) tied teammate Steven Guerrette for the team lead with seven catches against Amherst, tallying 76 yards, with a long gain of 22. Through four games, Beltran leads the Bobcats with 311 receiving yards, eighth in the NESCAC. The sophomore has 27 which is tied for the second-most in the conference …
Michael Spencer (Mansfield, Texas) tied for the team lead with nine tackles versus the Mammoths, including five solo stops. The rookie also broke up a pass as the Bates defense held Amherst to 187 passing yards …
Parker Huynh-Benningfield (Austin, Texas) averaged over 30 yards per punt in a defensive struggle against Amherst. The sophomore pinned the Mammoths inside their own 20 once and did not have a touchback. Three of Huynh-Benningfield's punts forced the Mammoths to make a fair catch.
Bowdoin –Junior linebacker
Max Jacobs (Portland, Ore.) had 10 tackles, including nine solo stops, against Tufts on Saturday night.
Colby - Senior
Marc Dougherty (Gretna, La.) helped lead a defensive unit that held the Wesleyan offense to just 79 yards rushing and 158 yards through the air, the Cardinals’ lowest totals of the season. The linebacker had eight total tackles, including a sack in the fourth quarter to force a punt in the final minutes of a 13-13 game …
Hamilton –
Lucas Perez-Segnini (Rye, N.Y.) finished with five catches for 84 yards and a fifth career touchdown reception in the Continentals' 34-21 loss against Trinity … Junior
Tighe Hoey (New Canaan, Conn.) was credited with a career-high 11 tackles and boomed a 72-yard punt against Trinity.
John Wilson (Rose Valley, Pa.) made a career-best 12 stops and
Kyle Bratcher (Park Ridge, N.J.) came up with his second interception this season … Senior
Mark Howrigan (St. Albans, Vt.) blocked a punt, recovered the loose ball, and returned it for a 35-yard touchdown against Trinity. The Continentals have returned blocked punts for a touchdown two weeks in a row. The blocked punt is the second of Howrigan's Hamilton career.
Middlebury – With 56 seconds left on the clock on Saturday, junior
Patrick Jamin (Rumson, N.J.) hauled in the game-winning 16-yard touchdown reception to lift Middlebury past Williams 12-10. On the same drive, Jamin had a 20-yard catch good for a first down to put the Panthers in scoring position. On a day where receptions were difficult to come by due to torrential rain, the junior led the NESCAC with 140 yards receiving. The wide receiver also hauled in a career-best 62-yard catch in the third quarter, setting up a go-ahead field goal to give Middlebury a 6-3 lead. That reception was the longest in conference play this week. Jamin leads the conference with 433 yards receiving and 108.3 yards per game …
Zach Levy (Arvada, Colo.) factored into half of Middlebury’s points in the victory over Williams. The kicker was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals, including a 29-yarder. The junior is fourth in the conference in points scored and first for Middlebury with 22 on the year.
Trinity – Junior
Sean Clapp (Wyckoff, N.J.) hauled in a career-high 13 receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown in Trinity's 34-21 victory over Hamilton College. Clapp leads the conference with 30 receptions and ranks second in yards with 401 receiving yards through the opening four games of the season … Junior
My-Lyke Davis (Danbury, Conn.) pulled down a pair of interceptions for the Trinity defense in the Bantams’ 34-21 conference win over Hamilton College. In the second quarter, Davis returned his first interception to the Hamilton 7-yard line, which led to a Trinity touchdown four plays later. Early in the third quarter, Davis collected his second INT and brought the ball to the Hamilton 36-yard line, where the Bantams found the end zone four plays later to extend their lead to 31-7 …
Matthew Jumes (Franklin, Mass.) successfully converted both field goals attempts against the Continentals. Jumes knocked through a 33-yard field goal to open the scoring in the game and added a 34-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to pad the Bantam's lead. Jumes also went 4-for-4 on extra points attempts in the win.
Tufts – Sophomore
Suleiman Abuaqel (River Forest, Ill.) posted five tackles, including four tackles for loss and three sacks at Bowdoin. The three sacks were the most in a game for a Tufts player since Jovan Nenadovic had three against Trinity College on September 14, 2019 … Punter
Patrick Walsh (Concord, Mass.) had his best game of the season against the Polar Bears. The graduate student averaged 51 yards on his four kicks including two inside the 20 and a long of 66 yards. Walsh also had five touchbacks on five kickoffs in the driving rain.
Wesleyan –
Chase Wilson (Lake Charles, La.) scored two more touchdowns on Saturday, giving him six over the past two games and seven for the season. The junior totaled three catches for 45 yards in an overtime loss at Colby …
Declan Welch (Garden City, N.Y.) turned in a career game as the sophomore posted seven tackles (six solo) and two sacks against the Mules. The seven tackles are a new career-high while the two sacks are the first of his Cardinal career.
Williams –
Mario Fischetti (Glen Head, N.Y.) rushed 20 times for 119 yards in a 12-10 loss to visiting Middlebury. The junior posted a game-high rush of 36 yards in the second quarter …
Wyatt Cotton (Edgewater, Md.) broke up three passes, had two solo tackles, and posted one interception with a return of 16 yards in a 12-10 setback against visiting Middlebury Saturday …
Leonardo Maiuolo (San Jose, Calif.) punted six times against the Panthers placing three inside the 20. The rookie’s longest punt in the game was 43 yards and he averaged 35.3 yards per punt.
