Why did you choose to attend Conn. College?
I attended a Quaker high school and I wanted to go somewhere that had similar values and beliefs. On my visit to Conn, I was able to see that it offered an experience that was as close to that ideal environment as I could get. After spending time with the team here, it became an easy decision for me.

Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I wanted to continue to compete at the collegiate level, however. I did not want my life consumed totally by athletics in the way that Division I programs sometimes do.

What is the best thing about being part of the NESCAC?
It’s an extremely competitive yet close-knit community. I’ve gotten to know many of my competitors very well and always look forward to competing with and against them at meets.

What extracurricular activities or service activities do you participate in?
I love to garden. I’ve gardened with my mother since I was a little kid and find it quite calming and rewarding.

What internships/research projects have you participated in?
I had an internship at UBS as a Global Wealth Management summer analyst. I learned a great deal about the importance of communication, staying informed on the day-to-day events that might impact market conditions and thus people's choices, and most importantly long-term relationship building as that is the key to maintaining a client (along with good returns).

What has been the most interesting part of your major?
In Botany, it would be my overall increased knowledge of the many different types and species of plants there are. In Economics it would be understanding how fragile markets are and how our day-to-day decisions have a ripple effect down the line on them.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned from being a student-athlete?
To appreciate and enjoy my downtime and more importantly humility.

What is your favorite place on your campus?
A tie between my dorm room and the campus arboretum as it was one of the main deciding factors in me attending Conn. It is always a calm quiet place I can go to for clearing my head or just simply going for a leisurely walk.

What is something interesting about you that others might not know?
I was born in Ethiopia and was adopted along with my younger sister Savannah, who attends Middlebury (Hi sis!), when I was 5.

What is something you enjoy doing when not in class or competing in your sport?
Taking naps and tending to my plants.
