Why did you choose to attend Colby?
Colby has the perfect combination of rigorous academics, athletics, and extracurriculars, combined with a tight-knit community of students, professors, and coaches. I wanted the opportunity to take advantage the outdoors through skiing, hiking, fly fishing, and exploring. I felt like Colby provided me with the ability and resources to do that. Finally, I loved the lacrosse team and Coach Henning immediately, and the campus is beautiful!

Why did you choose to be a Division III student-athlete?
I wanted to be able to play my sport, focus academically, and explore extracurriculars that I am passionate about. I felt that playing Division III would give me the best opportunity to do so.

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?
At Colby, I work for the Colby Communications Department as an editorial assistant going through archives, writing, and editing for the Colby Magazine. I am also a mentor and leadership board member for Colby Cares About Kids (CCAK), a 1:1 mentorship program between Colby students and surrounding Waterville public school students.

What is something you enjoy doing that you never get tired of?
Skiing!

What has been your favorite class outside your major?
My freshman year I took an English class called Writing a Revolution with a visiting professor. We ended up spending a majority of our time discussing the musical Hamilton. My class listened to all the music and read through the entire script. It was so exciting to engage with and analyze a musical that is so famous.

Who is your favorite professor?
I have had so many wonderful professors at Colby, and it is hard to choose. However, Gail Carlson in the environmental science department has been one of my most influential professors in my time at Colby. She has helped me in deciding what I want my career to be and always has new ideas for me, even sitting with me for hours to talk out all the possible directions I could go in. This past January Plan term she encouraged me to build an independent study devoted to learning about the renewable energy world and networking in the environmental science sector to better prepare myself for my postgraduate career. She truly cares about her students and their lives outside of the classroom and is an expert in all things public health. Her classes are some of the most interesting and eye-opening courses I have taken in my college career and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to be taught by her.

What has been the most interesting part of your major?
As part of my psychology major at Colby, I was able to design and run my own research study with two other Colby student-athletes. We investigated the interpersonal coordination abilities between athletic teams on campus and because of our exciting significant results, we have continued the research independently with our professor and are hoping to publish our results later this year.

What advice would your 2021-22 self give your 2017-18 self?
If there is one thing I have learned during the COVID pandemic, it is to be grateful for every opportunity I have to play the sport I love at a school that I love. With this in mind, I would tell my younger self to be grateful for every single day, even the hard ones, because you never know what’s around the corner and  when it could be taken away.

What is your favorite place on campus?
The new athletic center. It’s amazing!
