CLINTON, N.Y. - The Colby Mules took on Hamilton College in the first round of NESCAC Tournament Friday night. Colby entered the game following an uneasy stretch to end the season. With some key players rested and healthy, the Mules were able to top the Continentals, 64-58 .
Noah Tyson led four Mules in double figures with 16 points, including a 9-for-10 effort from the foul line. He also grabbed six rebounds, handed out two assists, and collected three steals. Will King and Alex McGovern came off the bench to contribute 12 points each and Matt Hanna chipped in 10 points to round out the leaders for Colby. Nick Osarenren paced the Hamilton offense with 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Patrick Morgan added 14 points.
Hamilton opened the up a seven-point lead five minutes into the contest, but the Mules came back to tie the game up several times. With the score knotted at 23-23 at the 4:16 mark, Colby was able to pull in front by nine with 1:50 left in the stanza and headed into the break with a 35-31 lead. The Mules shot 52 percent from the field and held Hamilton to 38.2 percent shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes.
The Mules maintained their lead in the second half until the 2:04 remaining in the game when the Continentals used a 7-0 spurt, capped by a 3-pointer from Eric Anderson, allowed Hamilton to pull ahead, 56-55. Colby quickly responded and with back-to-back layups from McGovern and Cooper Wirkala to ignite a 9-2 run to close the game and give the Mules the victory.
Colby advances to the NESCAC Quarterfinals where it will take on top-seeded Wesleyan on Sunday at 2 p.m.
