Why did you choose to attend Bowdoin?
Bowdoin was the first school I toured and I could immediately picture myself here. I loved the combination of high level academics, competitive athletics, and a supportive student body. I had only ever heard positive things about Bowdoin, and everyone said the people were what made it special. Meeting the team and coaches, I knew it was where I wanted to be.

What is the best thing about being part of the NESCAC?
My favorite part of the NESCAC is the combination of high caliber academics and athletics. It is fun to play with and against athletes who are driven to compete both in the classroom and on the field.

Did you participate in charity work or work on the frontlines in healthcare during the pandemic?
When we got sent home last March, I began working part time as a care coordinator at Grand Rounds Health before my summer internship began. I was on a COVID-dedicated phone line connecting members with clinicians, finding testing sites, and helping high risk individuals get time off work. I was happy to advocate for these members, but it also shed light on all the disparities in the healthcare system.

What is something you enjoy doing that you never get tired of?
I love playing spike ball. At home, my friends and I try to play as often as we can and it gets pretty competitive. This past summer we even attempted to set up lights so we could keep playing after sunset.

What has been your favorite class outside of your major?
This fall I took an environmental studies class – The Nature of Data. This course was very different from other classes I had taken and I enjoyed applying the technological skills I had developed to investigate sea level rise, public gardens, city planning, and more.

Have you studied abroad during your collegiate experience?
I studied abroad in Athens, Greece the fall of my junior year. I took religion, economics, history, Greek courses at College Year Athens. Funny enough, I broke my wrist in a history class learning how to box like ancient Greeks. My favorite part of studying abroad was getting to travel in Europe and experience different cultures.

What internships/research projects have you participated in?
I interned at Grand Rounds Health, a personalized healthcare company, the summer of 2019 and have been back working with them since May 2020. I worked on a wide range of projects, specifically looking at improving workflows within the Care Team. One of the most valuable things I learned at Grand Rounds is that I want to work in healthcare and make a difference in the quality of care available to everyone.

What has been the most interesting part of your major?
I am excited to be one of the first three people to graduate from Bowdoin with the digital and computational studies coordinate major. I have enjoyed being a part of this growing department and the classes have been my favorite at Bowdoin. In particular, I have really enjoyed my year-long capstone project where I have been researching flaws in the healthcare system for a paper I will publish at the end of the year.

What is the greatest lesson you have learned from being a student-athlete?
The most important lesson softball has taught me is to learn from my mistakes and then move on. My travel coaches always used to say “flush it,” and this sentiment is really applicable to anything in life.

What is your favorite place on your campus?
My favorite place on campus is our locker room. We spent a lot of time hanging out there before practices, and we would go all out decorating it before games.

Who has been the most influential person on you during your time in college?
The class of seniors my first year was really awesome. They were great role models and leaders, and showed us how to make the most of our time at Bowdoin. They created a fun and close-knit team culture that was a great environment to start my college experience.
