NCAA Announces Cross Country Championship Qualifiers

HADLEY, Mass. – Ten teams and nine individuals from the NESCAC will compete at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 23. Spalding University and the Louisville Sports Commission are hosting the championships at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The men’s race will begin at 10:45 a.m. (ET), followed by the women's race at 11:45 a.m. (ET).

The Colby and Williams men’s teams earned automatic bids to the NCAA Men’s Cross Country Championship after finishing as the top two teams at the NCAA New England Regional hosted by Bowdoin. The Ephs won their first regional title since 2015, while the Mules finished as the runner-up. Joining Colby and Williams in Kentucky will be Amherst, Bates, and Middlebury, as all three teams earned at-large invitations.

Williams, the 2019 NESCAC Champion, is making its 28th NCAA appearance, while Colby is making its third trip to the national championship and first since 2014. Amherst and Middlebury are both in the field for the 10th time overall, while Bates has qualified for the seventh time in program history.

The Williams women also won their first regional title since 2015 at Bowdoin and earned an automatic berth. The Ephs, the 2019 NESCAC Champion, are appearing in the NCAA Championship for the 28th time and will be joined by Bates, Middlebury, Tufts, and Wesleyan which were all at-large selections.

Bates is appearing in the NCAA Championship for the sixth time, while Middlebury is participating in the national championship race for the 24th consecutive year. Tufts qualified for the national championship for the 10th time overall and sixth straight year and Wesleyan is making its fourth appearance and first since 2009.

Individuals who have been invited to the compete in the championships include Delaney Bullock, Luca Ostertag-Hill, and Caroline Shipley of Bowdoin; Sophia Gorman, the 2019 NESCAC Champion, of Colby; Danny Ashale and Meredith Cronin of Connecticut College; Brigit Humphreys of Hamilton; and Samantha Feenstra and Ace McAlister of Trinity.
