Men's Basketball All-NESCAC Selections Announced

HADLEY, Mass.Middlebury senior Matt St. Amour (Swanton, Vt.) has been voted by the conference coaches as the 2017 NESCAC Player of the Year. The guard helped the NCAA Tournament-bound Panthers win their second straight NESCAC title. St. Amour is the third Middlebury player to be recognized as the NESCAC Player of the Year, joining Ben Rudin (2009) and Ryan Sharry (2012). He is on the First Team for the second straight year and leads the NESCAC in scoring at 22.0 points per game. St. Amour is one of the top three-point threats in the conference having made 103 treys and is shooting 42 percent from long range. Additionally, he is averaging 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and ranks fifth in the conference in steals (1.7 pg).

  • Amherst and Middlebury each had players selected to the All-NESCAC First and Second Teams. Other institutions represented on the all-conference teams included Bates, Hamilton, Trinity, Tufts, Wesleyan and Williams.
  • Seven players on the All-NESCAC teams are first-time all-conference honorees.
  • Senior Marcus Delpeche of Bates landed on the First Team for the first time in his career. The forward lead the Bobcats in scoring at 15.1 points per game, while shooting 54.3 percent from the field, good for eighth in the league. He ranks second in the conference in total rebounds with 243 caroms and is third in rebounds per game (9.7).
  • Amherst junior Johnny McCarthy earns his first All-NESCAC honor with a spot on the First Team. The 2015 NESCAC Rookie of the Year is the second leading scorer for the Purple & White and ranks 10th in the NESCAC in scoring at 14.5 points per game. He also ranks eighth among the league leaders in rebounding (8.0), while also averaging 2.0 assists per game. McCarthy is also shooting 47.2 percent from the floor as Amherst heads into the NCAA Tournament.
  • Williams guard Daniel Aronowitz earns all-conference recognition for the second time in his career. The senior leads the Ephs in scoring and ranks fourth among the NESCAC leaders, averaging 17.2 points per game. He is shooting 35.2 percent from three-point range and ranks sixth in the conference with 51 three-pointers. Aronowitz has scored 20 or more points in 13 games and carries a streak of four straight double-digit games into Williams’ NCAA Tournament First Round game.
  • Ed Ogundeko, the 2015 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year, moves up to the All-NESCAC First Team after earning Second Team honors last year. The Trinity senior center paces the league with 288 rebounds and is sixth among conference leaders with 37 blocks. Ogundeko provided a presence in the lane for the Bantams, averaging a double-double of 16.6 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, while also shooting 54.2 percent from the field.
  • Hamilton rookie Kena Gilmour is the first player in program history to garner NESCAC Rookie of the Year accolades. The guard played in all 25 games for the Continentals and ranked third on the team in scoring, averaging 12.0 points in just 18 minutes per game this season. Gilmour shot 48.3 percent from the field and reached double digits in the scoring column 17 times, including a stretch of eight straight games in January.
  • Bates senior Malcolm Delpeche has been selected as the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He is just the second Bobcat in program history to earn the honor, joining Zak Ray (2007). Delpeche registered a league-high 74 blocks this year, averaging 3.1 per game. He also ranked fourth in the conference on the boards, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game, while also chipping in 13.2 points per contest.
  • Middlebury’s Jeff Brown has been selected NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers for the second straight year and fifth time in his 20-year tenure. The Panthers started the season with an 11-1 mark and dropped just two conference games during the regular season. Middlebury earned the No. 2 seed in the NESCAC Championship and went on to win its second straight NESCAC title and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with a 24-3 overall mark. Brown has received the Coach of the Year honor in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2016.
