Williams' Raventos Named Player of the Year

HADLEY, Mass. - Williams sophomore Juli Raventos (San Jose, Costa Rica) has been chosen as the NESCAC Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s coaches. She has posted an 18-1 record at No. 1 singles and a 23-3 record in at No. 1 doubles, as she helped the Ephs successfully defend their NESCAC title as the No. 1 seed last weekend in Maine. Raventos won her first 16 singles matches of the year before suffering her first loss, and went 4-0 at the Lindsay Morehouse Invitational in the fall. She is the fourth Williams player to earn the award, joining Kara Shoemaker (2014), Stephanie Hall (2003, 2004) and Selma Kikic (2002).

  • Juli Raventos, who was First Team All-NESCAC in singles last year, partnered with Linda Shin to earn First Team All-NESCAC recognition in doubles play after landing on the Second Team a year ago. Williams’ top tandem won the NEWITT Invitational this fall en route to posting a 23-3 record. Shin was also recognized on the Second Team for singles play for the second consecutive season. Raventos was one of six NESCAC singles players selected to compete in the singles tournament of the NCAA Championships while Raventos and Shin were invited to participate in the doubles tournament.
  • Tufts first-year Mina Karamercan was named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. She is the third Tufts player to garner the plaudit, as Julia Browne and Lindsey Katz were honored in 2008 and 2010, respectively. Karamercan has amassed a 20-5 record at No. 2 singles this season for the Jumbos to also be recognized on the First Team in singles. This spring, she teamed up with Lauren Louks at No. 1 doubles to post a record of 16-3 and receive First Team All-NESCAC accolades in doubles play. The tandem will participate in the doubles portion of the NCAA Championships in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
  • Tufts’ Lauren Louks was named to the First Team in singles for the first time in her career. The sophomore posted an 18-7 mark at No. 1 singles for the NCAA Tournament-bound Jumbos, who are making their 15th appearance in 16 seasons. Earlier this fall, she went 4-0 at the Bowdoin Invitational. Louks was also selected to compete in the NCAA singles championship from May 26-28.
  • Sophomore Eudice Chong of Wesleyan was selected First Team All-NESCAC in singles and doubles for the second straight year. The 2015 NESCAC Player and Rookie of the Year helped the Cardinals earn their second overall trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 2001. This fall, Chong won the USTA/ITA New England Regional Championship three weeks before winning the USTA/ITA National Singles Division III Championship. That success carried into the spring at the No. 1 spot, as she is currently 25-2. In doubles, Chong and her partner sophomore Aashli Budhiraja are 11-0 this spring, as Budhiraja is earning all-conference recognition for the first time in her career. The pair were selected to participate in the NCAA doubles championship while Chong was invited to participate in the singles portion of the NCAA individual championships.
  • Ria Gerger of Middlebury closes out her career as a four-time All-NESCAC selection in singles. The senior was named to her second consecutive First Team in singles after landing on the Second Team in 2013 and 2014. Gerger has won seven straight matches in the No. 1 position for the Panthers heading into the NCAA Tournament this weekend. This season, she is 13-4 in singles play. Gerger was named to the Second Team in doubles for the third straight year as well. She was chosen to play in the singles draw and serve as an alternate in the doubles draw of the NCAA Championships later this month.
  • Bowdoin junior Joulia Likhanskaia was named First Team All-NESCAC in singles for the third time in her collegiate career. The 2014 NESCAC Rookie of the Year has posted a 16-10 record in the No. 1 position for the Polar Bears, who are playing in their 15th straight NCAA Tournament this weekend. She was also named to the Second Team in doubles for the second straight year. Likhanskaia was invited to compete in the NCAA singles championship in Kalamazoo, as well as the doubles portion of the championship.
  • Senior Maya Hart (Amherst, Mass.) of Williams has been named the conference’s Senior Sportswoman of the Year, becoming the sixth Eph to garner the accolade. The award is given annually to the individual who best combined and displayed a high standard of tennis coupled with the highest levels of sportsmanship.
  • Middlebury’s Mike Morgan was selected as the NESCAC Coach of the Year for the second time in his 10 years at the helm. Morgan, who previously won the honor in 2008, guided the Panthers into the NESCAC Championship as the No. 2 seed. Middlebury went on to reach the program’s first conference championship match before finishing as the runner-up. The Panthers also earned their 13th NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 14 seasons.
