NESCAC Cross Country All-Conference Teams Announced

Nichols and Nadler Earn Top Honors

HADLEY, Mass. – Senior Tim Nichols (North Lima, Ohio) of Tufts and sophomore Abigail Nadler (Chicago, Ill.) of Middlebury were named the NESCAC Most Outstanding Performers following the 2016 NESCAC Cross Country Championships hosted by Colby on Saturday. The annual honor is given to the individual who finishes first at the conference championship meet.

• Abigail Nadler is the third Middlebury runner to garner Most Outstanding Performer honors. She is the second Panther in three years to win the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country Championship. Nadler also repeats as an All-NESCAC First Team selection.
• Katherine Treanor of Amherst is the NESCAC Rookie of the Year after placing third overall. She is the first Purple & White runner to win the award since Sophia Galleher was honored in 2006, and the fifth runner from Amherst to be selected in the history of the award.
• Williams captured its 15th NESCAC title behind the strength of four All-NESCAC honorees. First-year Carmen Bango and junior Anna Harleen were named to the All-NESCAC First Team. Harleen earned her second All-NESCAC honor after being selected to the All-NESCAC Second Team selection in 2015. Emma Zehner and Victoria Kingham were named to the All-NESCAC Second Team. Kingham is a former NESCAC Rookie of the Year, earning the honor in 2014. She also earned All-NESCAC honors last year as a member of the first team and was a second team selection in 2014. Zehner was an All-NESCAC Fist Team selection in 2014.
• Connecticut College senior Ashley Curran is a repeat All-NESCAC Second Team selection from last year.
• Nine different runners earned All-NESCAC honors for the first time in their careers. Five different runners earned All-NESCAC First Team, while four other runners were named for All-NESCAC Second Team Jennifer “Jay” Hartshorn of Bates was voted as the NESCAC Women’s Cross Country of the Year by the conference coaches for the first time in her 12-year tenure and is the first Bates Women’s Cross Country Coach to garner the honor. The Bobcats finished third, marking their fourth top-five performance in the past five years, and best result at the NESCAC Championship since 1987.
• Tufts senior Tim Nichols won the men’s race and became the first Jumbo to win the individual conference title since 1981. He finished over 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field and earned All-NESCAC First Team honors for the third straight year and finished his career as a four-time All-NESCAC honoree. He and teammate Luke O’Connor, also an All-NESCAC First Team runner, finished 1-2 to help Tufts tie for third overall.
• Williams won its fourth consecutive NESCAC Men’s Cross Country Championship after placing four of its five scoring runners among the top 20 finishers. Junior Ben Decker paced the Ephs to earn All-NESCAC First Team honors for the third straight year. Junior Liam Simpson also earned All-NESCAC accolades, landing on the second team.
• Bates first-year James Jones finished fourth overall to become the first Bobcat runner to be named the NESCAC Rookie of the Year. He also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team for his efforts.
• Five of the seven runners listed the All-NESCAC First Team were repeat honorees, while the All-NESCAC Second Team was made of seven runners earning the accolade for the first time in their careers.
• Joining Nichols and Decker as repeat honorees, were Colby’s David Chelimo and Amherst’s Mohamed Hussein. Chelimo, the 2013 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, also earned a spot on the All-NESCAC Second Team that year and was an All-NESCAC First Team honoree in 2014. Hussein was last year’s Most Outstanding Performer and garnered All-NESCAC Second Team honors in 2014.
• Peter Farwell of Williams and Erik Nedeau of Amherst were selected as the NESCAC Men’s Cross Country Co-Coaches of the Year by their peers. It marks the fifth time co-coaches have been recognized in the history of the award. Farwell earns the honor for the sixth time in his 38-year tenure with the Ephs, while Nedeau wins the honor for the first time in his 20 years with the Purple & White.
