NESCAC Women's Golf All-Conference Teams Released
Gudas Earns Player of the Year Honors; Yurosek Named Rookie of the Year
HADLEY, Mass. – Williams junior Elizabeth Gudas (Binghamton, N.Y.) has been selected as the NESCAC Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s coaches. She was the runner-up at the 2016 NESCAC Championship and finished in the top three in three other tournaments this season. Gudas joined four other golfers on the All-NESCAC First Team, while five golfers were voted to the All-NESCAC Second Team.
- Williams landed four golfers on the All-NESCAC First and Second Teams. Middlebury was represented three times, while Amherst had a pair of golfers recognized.
- Middlebury’s Katharine Fortin was the top golfer for the Panthers this season. An All-NESCAC First Team selection last season, she opened the year winninig the Utica Invitational, shooting two rounds of 76. The junior added a third-place finish at the George Phinney Jr. Golf Classic and the 2016 NESCAC Championship with a score of 157.
- Senior Jamie Gracie posted three straight top-10 finishes to start the year. She was the runner-up at the Wellesley Invitational (152) and the top Amherst golfer at the Mount Holyoke Invitational, finishing third overall with a score of 151.
- Chloe Levins, a first-year golfer for Middlebury, was the medalist at the 2016 NESCAC Championship. She fired a 74 on the first day and followed up with a 76 in the final round as the Panthers made a run for the title.
- Williams’ Phoebe Mattana, last year’s NESCAC Player of the Year, rounds out the All-NESCAC First Team. The junior was recognized as a first-team selection for the second straight year. She won the Mount Holyoke Invitational with a two-day total of 147 and was fifth at the 2016 NESCAC Championship.
- Ephs' sophomore Cordelia Chan won the Williams Invitational with two rounds of 74 and added three other top-10 finishes this season to earn All-NESCAC Second Team honors. She posted a two-day score of 163 to finish 10th at the 2016 NESCAC Championship.
- Bowdoin’s Caroline Farber is the first Polar Bear women’s golfer to earn All-NESCAC honors. The rookie opened the season winning the Maine State Championship behind a two-day total of 148. Farber posted back-to-back top-10 finishes, including seventh at the 2016 NESCAC Championship to close out the year.
- Senior Sophie Kitchen of Williams is an All-NESCAC Second Team performer for the second straight year. She earned four top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish in the season-opening Wellesley Invitational and was fourth at the Ephs’ own Williams Invitational. She added a sixth-place finish at the 2016 NESCAC Championship.
- Middlebury’s Blake Yaccino is one of three rookies to earn All-NESCAC honors. She finished sixth at the Mount Holyoke Invitational with a 36-hole score of 153 and added a seventh-place finish in her first NESCAC Championship this season.
- First-year Morgan Yurosek is the first Purple & White golfer to earn NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors. She carded a two-day total of 149 to earn medalist honors in her collegiate debut at the Wellesley Invitational. She also posted a top-10 finish at the Mount Holyoke Invitational and the 2016 NESCAC Championship.
- Bill Mandigo of Middlebury wins the NESCAC Coach of the Year honor for the first time in his career. He led the Panthers to a runner-up performance at the 2016 NESCAC Championships. Middlebury did not finish lower than fourth in the five tournaments in which it competed, highlighted by a win at the Utica Invitational.
