Inaugural NESCAC Women's Golf All-Conference Teams Released
Mattana Earns Player of the Year Honors; Chan Named Rookie of the Year
HADLEY, Mass. – Williams sophomore Phoebe Mattana (Demarest, N.J.) has been selected as the inaugural NESCAC Player of the Year as voted on by the league’s coaches after finishing no lower than third place in all six tournaments she competed in this fall. Mattana joined four other golfers on the All-NESCAC First Team, while six golfers were voted to the All-NESCAC Second Team.

Phoebe Mattana earned medalist honors at the Wellesley Invitational with a two-round score of 147, tied for first at the Middlebury Invitational with a 36-hole score of 160, and added runner-up finishes at the NYU and Mount Holyoke Invitationals. Nine of her ten rounds this fall were in the 70s, including three even par-72 scores. Her scoring average also led the conference.

Cordelia Chan won the Mount Holyoke Invitational with a two-day score of 145, which included a school-record round of 68 on the second day of competition. She also earned medalist honors at the NESCAC Championship and the Williams Invitational with a 36-hole score of 145. Chan ranked second in the league in stroke average.

Williams landed four golfers on the All-NESCAC First and Second Teams. Amherst and Middlebury had three all-conference golfers apiece.

Tracey Kim joined teammates Mattana and Chan on the first team. She registered five top-five individual finishes over the course of the season with her top finish coming at the NESCAC Championship and the Williams Invitational where she tied for third with a 36-hole score of 156.

Katie Rosenberg was a consistent performer throughout the fall for the Jeffs, but played her best golf near the end of the season at the NESCAC Championship and the Williams Invitational where she posted a two-round score of 155 to finish in second place.

Middlebury’s Katharine Fortin rounds out the All-NECSAC First Team selections with consistent performances each weekend after posting six top-ten finishes during the season. Her best showing of the fall came at the Middlebury Invitational where she tied for first with a two-day score of 160.

Monica Chow and Helen Dailey represented Middlebury on the second team. Dailey progressed as the season wore on, placing eighth at the NESCAC Championship and 11th at the Williams and Wellesley Invitaitonals. Chow provided leadership on a squad that finished second at the NESCAC Championship and third at the Middlebury, Wellesley and Williams Invitationals.

Devyn Gardner and Kate Weiss landed on the All-NESCAC Second Team for Amherst. Gardner tied for medalist honors at the Middlebury Invitational (160), while Weiss’ top finish was at the Mount Holyoke Invitational where she tied for third (154).

Sophie Kitchen of Williams placed in the top ten of five tournaments this fall to land on the All-NESCAC Second Team. She captured medalist honors at the NYU Invitational (146), which included a round of 69 on the first day.

Electra Washburn of Hamilton garnered second-team recognition after earning medalist honors at the two-day Hamilton Invitational (160) and the one-day SUNY Cobleskill Invitational (83). She also had top-ten finishes at the Saint Lawrence and Le Moyne Invitationals and the NESCAC Championship.

Bill Kangas of Williams was selected as the inaugural NESCAC Coach of the Year by his peers. The Ephs won all six invitationals they competed in this fall, including the first-ever NESCAC Championship. Williams also set program records earlier this season at the Mount Holyoke Invitational, where it set a single-round team record (298) and a two-round team record (605).
