HADLEY, Mass. - Williams placed first in women's grand final, while the men were runner-up during the 2013 ECAC-National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on Sunday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. By finishing as the top team from the NESCAC, the Ephs also won the NESCAC Rowing Championships for the fifth consecutive year.

In the women's grand final, Williams crossed the finish in a time of 6:35.434, just more than two seconds faster than second place finisher and NESCAC-foe Bates (6:37.876). Trinity was the only other NESCAC institution represented in the grand final, placing fourth with a time of 6:47.988.

The Ephs have now won eight straight conference titles and nine overall. The Bobcats have finished as the runner-up for the past three seasons.

Although Williams was edged by Michigan in the men’s grand final by almost four seconds, the Ephs still clinched the NESCAC title as being the top school from the conference. Williams posted a time of 5:52.977, less than two seconds ahead of third place Hobart and just over two seconds faster than the next NESCAC school Trinity (5:55.290). Bates, who recorded the second fastest time in the heats, also rowed in the grand final, finishing sixth in a time of 6:01.752.

With their performance, Williams captured their fifth NESCAC crown in a row and sixth all-time.

The Williams women's rowing team will receive an automatic invitation to the NCAA rowing championships at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. on May 31 through June 2. The Ephs have won the last seven national titles and own eight overall NCAA crowns.
