ECAC-NIRC Results

WORCESTER, Mass. - Williams College placed first in both the men's and women's grand final during the ECAC-National Invitational Rowing Championships (NIRC) on Friday at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. The pair of victories gives the Ephs the NESCAC Rowing Championships for the fourth year in a row.

In the women's grand final, Williams posted a time of 6:39.048, roughly five seconds faster than runner-up Bates (6:43.897). Trinity was the only other NESCAC team with a boat in the grand final, coming in fifth overall at 6:56.391.

The victory gave the Ephs their seventh consecutive conference crown and eighth overall. The Bobcats finished second in 2011 as well.

The men's grand final was the last event of the day. Although Trinity had the best time among the three morning heats, Williams would pace the field in the afternoon, winning in 5:56.156. It was a one-two-three finish for the NESCAC, as Bates came in second, just 2.242 seconds back (5:58.398), while Trinity was third in 6:00.977.

The performance provided Williams with its fourth-straight men's title and fifth overall.

The Williams women's rowing team will receive an automatic invitation to the NCAA rowing championships at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. on May 25-26. The Ephs have won the last six national titles and own seven overall NCAA crowns.
