NESCAC Cross Country All-Conference Teams Released
Amherst’s Lambert, Bowdoin’s Horowitz Earn
Top Honors
HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst senior Keri
Lambert (Amherst, Mass.) and Bowdoin junior Coby
Horowitz (Stow, Mass.) were named the NESCAC Most
Outstanding Performers following the 2012 NESCAC Cross Country
Championships at Bowdoin on Saturday. The annual honor is given to
the individual who finishes first at the conference championship
meet.
After a breakout junior campaign where she finished the 2011
NESCAC Championship as runner-up, Lambert (pictured right)
shattered the Bowdoin course record and took home first place 47
seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 20:33.45. Lambert
is the fourth Jeff in the last six years to win the NESCAC
championship. Middlebury senior Addie Tousley
(Kensington, Md.) finished second, and Colby senior Berol
Dewdney (Chester, Vt.) finished in sixth place, both
earning All-NESCAC First Team honors for the second year in a row.
Joining the three repeat First Team selections were junior
Kaleigh Kenny (Glen Rock, N.J.), junior
Brianne Mirecki (East Lyme, Conn.) and sophomore
Adrienne Straight (Oakland, Calif.), who led
Williams to its second consecutive women’s team title and
twelfth overall.
Tufts’ Audrey Gould (Pelham, Mass.) was
named the 2012 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Gould, also a member of
the First Team, was the top first year harrier at the championship
with a seventh place time of 22:02.21.
Wesleyan senior Julia Mark (Bloomsbury, N.J.)
earned All-NESCAC honors for the second time in her career, placing
on the Second Team with an eighth place finish of 22:05.31. In
2009, Mark earned First Team honors and was the NESCAC Rookie of
the Year. Mark was joined by classmate Hannah
Zimmerman (Northampton, Mass.) on the Second Team, while
Middlebury also placed a pair of runners on the squad. Junior
Emily Attwood (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) picked up
Second Team honors for the second straight year, while sophomore
Sarah Guth (Wilton, Conn.) collected her first
All-NESCAC finish. Bowdoin junior Madelena Rizzo
(Ardmore, Pa.), Bates junior Gabrielle Naranja
(Fort Kent, Maine) and Amherst sophomore Elizabeth
Briskin (Sherborn, Mass.) rounded out the Second Team
honorees.
Peter Farwell of Williams was named NESCAC Coach of the
Year for the second consecutive season. Farwell has led the Eph
women since 2000, and this is his fourth NESCAC Coach of the Year
honor. He also earned the award in 2002, 2005 and 2011. Farwell has
also been the men’s coach at Williams since 1979.
Horowitz (pictured right) won the men’s title on his home
course, just edging out Tufts senior Matt Rand
(Cape Elizabeth, Maine). Horowitz and Rand each earned
All-NESCAC recognition for the third time in their career, as both
runners secured First Team finishes in 2011 and Second Team honors
in 2010. Connecticut College junior Michael LeDuc
(Canton, Conn.), the 2010 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, added a third
First Team performance to his resume, while Middlebury senior
Jack Davies (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Williams
junior Chris Lee (Longmeadow, Mass.) were the
other repeat performers to make the First Team. They each earned
Second Team honors a year ago. Bowdoin junior Sam
Seekins (South China, Maine) and Bates junior Mike
Martin (Slatersville, R.I.) had All-NESCAC finishes for
the first time in their careers.
The Second Team also featured repeat performances, including
Wesleyan senior Skyler Cummins (Palo Alto,
Calif.), who was on the First Team in 2011. Bates junior
Tully Hannan (West Hartford, Conn.) picked up his
third All-NESCAC honor, with a spot on the 2011 First Team and 2010
Second Team, while senior Andrew Wortham (Newton,
Mass.) had his second consecutive Second Team finish.
Rounding out the Second Team were Middlebury junior Nate
Sans (Princeton, Mass.), Wesleyan senior Bryan
Marsh (West Hartford, Conn.) and a pair from Tufts,
including junior Ben Wallis (Dover, N.H.) and
senior Kyle Marks (Carmel, Ind.), who was the 2009
Rookie of the Year. Wallis and Marks led the Jumbos to their fourth
overall team title and first since winning three-straight from
2003-05.
Bijan Mazaheri (Wellesley, Mass.) of Williams was
named Rookie of the Year, as he was the top finisher among all
first years, with a time of 25:43.21.
Ethan Barron of Tufts was named Men’s Coach of the
Year. It is the second time Barron has been recognized by his peers
in his 11 seasons. In 2005, Barron was co-Coach of the Year with
Wesleyan’s John Crooke.
