Williams Men & Women Earn 2009 Rowing Crowns
HADLEY, Mass. - Due to high winds
at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) National
Invitational Rowing Championship at Cooper River in Camden County,
N.J., the remaining races on Sunday, May 10 were cancelled prior to
the completion of the varsity eight races. Because of this, the
2009 NESCAC Rowing Champions were determined by the New England
Rowing Championship (NERC) results that occurred at Lake
Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass., on May 2, with the Williams men's
& women's rowing team earning the conference championship.
The Williams Men's Rowing team
earned the 2009 NESCAC Championship for the first time since the
title was first handed out in 2004. The Ephs recorded a time of
6:02.824 in the varsity eight grand final, being out Trinity which
came in second at the NERC with a time of 6:04.215. The Williams
Women's Rowing team secured its fourth consecutive NESCAC title and
fifth overall with a 6:55.884 time in the varsity eight grand
final. Bates was second with a time of 6:58.086 atthe NERC.
The Williams women earn the NESCAC’s automatic bid to the
NCAA Division III National Championship Regatta at Cooper River in
Camden County, N.J. on May 29 through 31. The Ephs have claimed the
past three NCAA Rowing Championships.
