NESCAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams Announced
Hall of Williams Honored as NESCAC Women’s
Tennis Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – For the
second consecutive year, Stephanie Hall of Williams was named
Player of the Year at the NESCAC Women’s Tennis Championship.
Hall earned all-conference first team honors for the fourth
consecutive year after winning the "A" flight doubles title with
fellow senior Kate Troy. Amy Roche of Middlebury was named Rookie
of the Year, teammate Sandy Spring of Middlebury was honored as
Senior Sportswoman of the Year, and Middlebury head coach Nate
Simms earned Coach of the Year accolades.
The NESCAC all-conference team was
determined from action at the tournament. Each player who reached
the final in any of the three singles flights or won any of the
three doubles flights earned first-team All-NESCAC honors. Each
player who advanced to the semifinal round in singles or reached
the final in doubles received second-team all-conference
recognition. Other accolades are voted upon by the coaches in the
conference.
The 2004 NESCAC co-champions
Amherst and Williams each placed three members on the
all-conference first team. Amherst’s Kristen Raverta, last
year’s Rookie of the Year, won the "A" flight singles title
(consisting of first and second singles players) to earn first-team
honors. She joined with senior teammate Wallis Molchen to win the
"B" flight doubles title. First year Katie Hudson won the "C"
flight singles draw (fifth and sixth singles players).
Williams’ Alex Maclennan
defeated teammate Kate Troy to win the "B" flight singles title
(third and fourth singles players). Maclennan, who earned first
team honors last season, and Troy, who was recognized on the first
team for the third time in her career, join Hall on the first team.
The Bowdoin duo of Paulette Hricko and Julia Shaver won the "C"
flight doubles draw to earn first-team honors. Seniors Diana
Goldman of Trinity, a three time all-conference honoree, and Sanida
Kikic were also recognized on the all-conference first team.
