2005 Women's Ice Hockey All-Conference Teams Announced
Middlebury's Quizon Named Player of the Year
HADLEY, Mass. – Junior forward Emily Quizon was honored as the NESCAC 2004-05 Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Year in a vote by the league’s coaches. A first-team selection last year, Quizon led the league in points (49) and assists (33) to help Middlebury to a 14-1-1 conference record. The junior is ranked third nationally in points and second in assists.
Quizon was one of five Panthers chosen for all-conference honors. Middlebury’s Lorna Gifis, Emily McNamara and Kate Kogut join Quizon on the all-conference first team. Gifis, honored on the first team for a second consecutive season, was the top goal scorer in the conference (24), leads the nation in power play goals (9) and ranks fourth nationally in goals per game. McNamara, a sophomore defender, along with junior goaltender Kate Kogut led a Middlebury squad which ranked second in the conference in scoring defense allowing 1.36 goals per game. Kogut, a repeat first-team selection, posted a .924 save percentage with 330 saves on the year.
Bowdoin’s Meghan Gillis, the 2003-04 Rookie of the Year, was also honored on the first team. With 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points, the sophomore forward ranks just behind Gifis among NESCAC leaders in points and goals, and is second to Quizon in assists. Bowdoin first year defender Kristen Cameron rounds out the first team selections. Cameron, who was also honored as this season’s Rookie of the Year, ranks second nationally in scoring for defenders with 20 goals and 14 assists for 34 points. Cameron leads NESCAC in game winning goals (7).
Trinity coach Andy McPhee was named Coach of the Year by his peers In only its seventh year as a varsity squad, the Bantams continue to develop in McPhee’s third year as head coach. Trinity finished the season with a school record nine wins, a seven win improvement from a season ago.
This Saturday, March 5, Bowdoin will host the semifinal round of the NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Championship. Bowdoin (15-1-0) will play Hamilton (7-6-3) in the first semifinal at 1:00 p.m. followed by Middlebury (14-1-1) versus Williams (10-4-2) at 4:00 p.m. Semifinal winners will meet for the NESCAC Championship on Sunday, March 6 at 1:00 p.m at Bowdoin.
NESCAC all-conference selections are determined in a vote by the conference coaches.
