BRUNSWICK, Maine - Behind a hat
trick from Eliot Artberg and a shutout from Rob MacNeil, the
Hamilton College men's ice hockey team ended Bowdoin College Men's
Hockey season with a 4-0 victory in the first round of the NESCAC
Tournament on Saturday. The Continental victory enters Hamilton
into the semifinals of the NESCAC Tournament. Gametimes and
pairings will be announced on Saturday evening.
Hamilton drew first blood three
minutes into the game. Altberg received a pass from Erik Kallio at
the point and put it over the glove of Bowdoin's George
Papachristopoulos into the top corner of the net. Bowdoin's best
chance of the period came on a offensive breakaway that saw Adam
Dann receive a pass from Jon Landry and take a shot at the bottom
right corner of the net. The attempt was stopped by MacNeil to
preserve the lead.
The Continentals extended their
lead to two midway through the second period when Chris Clarkson
took the puck from Altberg and flipped a wrist shot over the diving
Papachristopoulos. Less than a minute later, Hamilton struck again
to go up 3-0. Altberg took a pass along the left wing and put it by
Papachristopoulos for his second goal of the contest.
The third period was scoreless for both teams until, with four
minutes left in regulation, Bowdoin pulled goalie Mike Healey.
Within a minute, Altberg completed his hat trick as he found the
open net from the blue line. Kallio notched his third assist of the
game on the goal.
Papachristopoulos saved 29 of
Hamilton's 32 shots on goal. Bowdoin's Healey saved both shots that
Hamilton took on him. MacNeil was perfect on the afternoon, saving
all 40 of Bowdoin's shots on goal. Including last week's 2-0 win
over Bowdoin, MacNeil has saved 78 consecutive shots against the
Polar Bears.
