2003 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams Announced
Griffin of Tufts named
2003 Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. - Tufts University
sophomore Bryan Griffin was honored by the conference coaches as
the 2003 NESCAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Year. Griffin,
the 2002 NESCAC Rookie of the Year, led the NESCAC in scoring this
season with 41 goals and 23 assists for 64 points while leading
Tufts to the championship game of the NESCAC Tournament.
Wesleyan freshman Glen Adams was
named NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Adams was one of the top scoring
midfielders in the conference this season and scored two
game-winning goals in overtime this season.
NESCAC Champion Middlebury College
placed four members on the all-conference first team. Junior
goalkeeper Eric Krieger and junior defender John West anchored a
defense which allowed the fewest goals per game in the league.
Krieger led the conference in goals against average and save
percentage stopping 63.5% of the shot attempts. Middlebury senior
midfielder Mike Frissora and junior attacker Mike Saraceni were
also first team selections. Saraceni was the leading scorer on the
conference’s most potent offense. Middlebury coach Erin Quinn
was named Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Panthers
to their third-consecutive NESCAC Championship.
Middlebury’s Frissora joins
senior midfielder Chris Hayes of Williams, senior long-stick
midfielder Ben Winston of Colby and junior defender Clancy Galgay
of Connecticut College as first-team selections a year after being
named to the all-conference second team.
Two Amherst midfielders were named
to the first-team all-conference. Junior Mike Allison was among the
conference leaders in scoring while freshman long-stick midfielder
Andrew Wilcox led the Lord Jeffs in takeaways and groundballs.
Bowdoin senior Kyle Courtiss led
the conference in goals (47) and was tied for second in points per
game. Defenders Clancy Galgay of Connecticut College and Jeff Jorve
of Wesleyan complete the first team selections.
NESCAC all-conference selections
are determined in a vote by the conference coaches. Additional
players honored on the first or second team are due to ties in the
voting.
