Colby’s Sarah Walsh Named Player of the Year

HARTFORD, Conn. — Sarah Walsh of Colby was named 2002-03 NESCAC Player of the Year by the conference coaches. The senior center led the conference in scoring and rebounding  averaging 17.8 points and 11.6 rebounds as Colby finished the year 18-7. Her Polar Bears (24-2) secured their third consecutive NESCAC Championship and are currently ranked eighth in the country.

Royer is making her third appearance on the all-conference first team. The senior forward averaged 14.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Royer currently ranks second on Bowdoin’s all-time scoring list with 1400 points entering NCAA play and stands as Bowdoin’s third most prolific rebounder with 752 boards.

Bates’ Carla Flaherty was named to the all-conference team for the second consecutive year. The senior guard used her 17.6 points per game to push Bates (19-7) into the conference tournament final against Bowdoin. Flaherty ended her career fifth on Bates’ scoring list with 1143 career points.
