2001-02 Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams Released
Bowdoin’s Trenkle
Named Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Sophomore
guard Lora Trenkle of Bowdoin was named the 2001-02 NESCAC
Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. Trenkle, who was named
the NESCAC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Year and earned
second-team honors last year, averaged 15.5 points, 3.6 rebounds,
and 2.8 assists per game in the regular season. She led the Polar
Bears to their second consecutive conference title and trip to the
NCAA Division III tournament.
Junior forward Kristi Royer of
Bowdoin and junior guard Kristin Hanley of Middlebury were named to
the first team for the second year in a row. Royer averaged 13.8
points and 6.9 rebounds per game in the regular season, shooting
50.8 percent from the field and 86.8 percent from the free throw
line. Hanley averaged 14.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in
the regular season to lead the Panthers to the second seed in the
conference tournament. She led the league in three-point field goal
percentage, hitting 42.1 percent of her three-point attempts.
Rounding out the first team were
junior forward/center Kate McCloskey of Trinity and junior forward
Carla Flaherty of Bates. McCloskey led the conference in scoring,
rebounding, and field goal percentage. She averaged 18.1 points,
10.9 rebounds, and shot 58.7 percent from the floor. Flaherty
averaged 12.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, leading the Bobcats
to a 7-2 mark in regular season conference play.
Senior guard Megan McCosker of
Middlebury was named the 2001-02 NESCAC Defensive Player of the
Year, the second consecutive year she was named the
conference’s top defender. McCosker, who also earned
second-team all-conference recognition, finished second in the
NESCAC in steals and third in assists.
Alexis Hollinger of Middlebury was
named the 2001-02 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Holllinger averaged
8.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game for
the Panthers.
Stefanie Pemper of Bowdoin was
named the NESCAC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year after
leading the Polar Bears to an 8-1 record in conference play during
the regular season and their second conference title in as many
years.
