2002 Volleyball All-Conference Teams Announced
Chadwick of Williams
Named Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. - Williams
sophomore middle hitter Joyia Chadwick, the 2001 NESCAC Rookie of
the Year, was chosen by the conference coaches as the 2002 NESCAC
Volleyball Player of the Year. The two-time NESCAC Player of the
Week was second in the conference in both blocks per game (1.49)
and hitting percentage (.439) while averaging 3.71 kills per game.
Chadwick was joined on the first
team by teammate Robin Young. Both sophomores were repeat
first-team selections and helped Williams to a school record 33
wins and the NESCAC Championship.
Senior middle hitter Eliza Allen of
Wesleyan, a four-time all-NESCAC selection, made her second
consecutive appearance on the first team. Allen, the 1999 NESCAC
Rookie of the Year and lone senior chosen to the first-team, led
the conference in hitting percentage (.449) and kills per game
(4.79).
Liz Wanless, a junior outside
hitter at Bates, was named to the all-NESCAC squad for the third
consecutive year. Wanless was honored as the NESCAC Rookie of the
Year and first team selection in 2000 and made the second team last
season. Tufts junior middle hitter Amy Cronin and Amherst sophomore
setter Annie Hoeksma round out the first team selections.
Middlebury’ Jamie Wong was
named the 2002 NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. Wong , a
freshman libero, ranked second in the conference with 4.49 digs per
game.
Colby freshman Caitlin Cleaver was named 2002 NESCAC Rookie of the
Year. Cleaver’s 3.72 kills per game were third best in the
conference.
Colby head coach Candice Parent was
honored as the NESCAC Coach of the Year. Parent, in her eighth
season at Colby, led the Mules to an 8-2 conference record and
23-10 mark overall.
