Women's Basketball All-Conference Teams Announced
Bates’ McLaughlin
Named Player of the Year
HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior
forward Kate McLaughlin of Bates was named the 2000-01 NESCAC
Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. McLaughlin, a
first-team selection last season, averaged 15.8 points and 8.4
rebounds per game and led Bates to a 7-2 record in the NESCAC
regular season.
Joining McLaughlin on the first
team was 1999-2000 NESCAC Rookie of the Year Emily Goodman of
Tufts. The sophomore center, who earned second-team all-conference
recognition last year, led the NESCAC in scoring (18.7 points per
game). Senior point guard Liz Tilley of Williams earned first-team
recognition, averaging 16.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists
per game.
Rounding out the first team were
two players who received third-team honors last year. Sophomore
forward Kristi Royer of NESCAC champion Bowdoin averaged 14.4
points and 7.8 rebounds per game, shooting 50.9 percent from the
field. Sophomore forward Kristin Hanley of Middlebury averaged 16.9
points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Megan McCosker of
Middlebury was named the 2000-01 NESCAC Defensive Player of the
Year. She helped the Panthers limit opponents to 34.1 percent
shooting from the field and 26.3 percent from three-point range.
Lora Trenkle of Bowdoin was named
the 2000-01 NESCAC Rookie of the Year in addition to being named
second-team all-conference. Trenkle averaged 13.8 points, 4.9
rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, and shot a conference-best 88.2
percent from the free throw line.
Billy McBride of Amherst was named
the NESCAC Coach of the Year after leading the Jeffs to an 8-1
record in conference play during the regular season and a trip to
the championship game of the NESCAC tournament.
